Just wanted to say hi to all and to (of course) ask a question or two...

I just picked up a new '07 Sunday morning, and I'm lovin' it!  Gotta get through the break-in, but it's not too bad.  I commute 70 miles a day, I've been limiting open highway running to about 10-15 min, varying RPM from 4000 to max rpm 5500 (per manual..., but accelerating briskly between).  I've got 150 miles on it, and it really feels like the motor's loosened up quite a bit.  Acceleration is good and getting better, which is cool!  One thing I did notice, at about 75 miles or so, the idle started creeping up - at about 90 miles, I was idling at 3K.

I've since adjusted the idle down (it took a lot of adjustment!), it now sits rock steady when warmed up at about 1500.  Never having broken in a brand-new motor before, I'm assuming that the idle crept up because the motor's internal friction has dropped as the wear surfaces polish up.  Have other riders observed similar behavior during break-in?

By the way... I'm really digging the sound and feel of the twin mill.  I'm coming over to 4-strokes from a two-stroke, miss the crackle and the narrow power band, but the 500's one heck of a fun little bike for commuting!!!

Thanks!...

Y'know, it's hard to believe that I can now actually consider a ride that far!!  I'm in southern Chester County near Newark, DE.  My old two-stroke got 70 miles PER TANK!  Can you imagine what a drag riding that out to Johnstown would be???  :o

I'll get out there someday... but family vacations already booked - and three weeks away, to boot.

Cheers!

Mike
