Oh, that's messy!

See the "beaching" of the Aluminum grain in the piston?  That shows where the crack began to propagate from.  Probably an oxide inclusion or something.  I love how the wrist pin keeper is still intact in half the groove after all that violence.   :o
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Makes one wonder if the retaining clip isn't over engineered and stronger that the piston.

I've never been a fan of those little clips.  On two different occasions I've rebuilt engines because one of those little clips failed and the wrist pin chewed up the cylinder wall.  Well, one engine did have a bent crankshaft, which could explain why the clip failed, but still...

I think aluminum slipper plugs fitted on either end of the wrist pin are a much brighter idea overall.

I never used the aluminum plugs but I've used teflon plugs.

Doesn't the pin take in oil and that in turn helps it cool. Now Yes I see how the pin can "walk" and tear up your cyl wall, but the plugs themselves are also likely to do damage of their own if they come loose.
Cool.
