Metallic ring ( I think )

I can almost always hear a bit of a metallic-like sound when my engine is running.  I also notice a lot more vibration since I've heard this noise start appearing.

Basically, a quick run down:

My bike is a 2007 GS500F.  I only have 6600 miles on it and besides the noise/vibration I haven't noticed any other problems.

When I got beyond the break in period, I was riding the bike a bit hard ( who doesn't? ) and I think twice I missed second gear  ( stopped in neutral ) when accelerating fast and went over redline twice.  It wasn't over for more than half a second, but nonetheless.

I didn't start hearing the metallic noise until much later, but I wanted you to have some insight on how the bike has been run.

Besides those 2 incidents, I've never missed an oil change ( I do my own every 2500 miles ) and I have checked my valve clearances and they seemed fine last I checked ( at about 2500 miles I checked them ).

Any ideas?  I'll see if I can find a way to record audio for ya'll to help but until then any input would be awesome.  I'm about to take it into the dealership soon if I can't figure out what it is, I don't wanna ruin my engine.

Thanks!
Best Regards,

Jeff

noise is part of having a gs. there is camshaft endplay, camshaft chain tensioner, fairings (don't forget to check for nuts (squirrel kind) stuffed in your fairing!)), and engine bolts that can work loose.

before you say 'halve a second' to valve float, think about it. you're talking around 10,500-11,500 rpm.

half a second means the valves floated for 191 revolutions in that half a second. sure, everybody does it. some are unlucky and destroy a motor, others find other things coming apart.

there are other things it might be. use a hose to pin down exactly where / which side it's coming from. someone will be able to tell you most likely what it is.

don't count your bike out just yet :)

I am not an automotive-type person, the most I can do with an engine is really basic things like changing oil filters, etc.

When you say cam tensioners or anything else, I really have no clue what you're talking about. :(

I wish someone here lived near Memphis so I didn't have to take it to a dealership, they charge a lot of money for little work and often take it upon themselves to 'fix other problems' that miraculously show up.

Jeff
