Hey guys,
I can't seem to find a 2001 GS500 carb kit! Pretty much anywhere. They all say "compatible from 1988-2000"

Anyone know where I can get one? I just bought my first bike and it's running pretty poorly, need to get those carbs cleaned up soon so I can get out and ride! It wants to idle between 3000-5000rpm right now...

Thanks for the help!

worst case scenario, you cn completely disassemble, carbs, and sake em in cleaner for a day or so. good as new :icon_twisted:

From the left side of your bike, look at the choke linkage. It may be sticking (like mine does) and causing the high idle. You can push (gently now!) from the LEFT side  of the bike and the linkage will slide over. Try fiddling (with the bike OFF) with the handle bar choke lever if you're having trouble seeing it below.

Also, your idle adjustment screw is under the carbs, big brass thumb wheel. Only adjust it when the bike is warm, or you'll be chasing your idle speed when it does warm up ;)

Thanks ohgood! I'll check those two things out. Sure would be nice if that was the problem rather than dirty carbs!

Anyone know when the service interval on these bikes are? I just bought it at 15k and the top end sounds a little loud...

Anyone have an idea where I could get a carb kit for it? Or at least a list of which o-rings and bits I should order OEM from a stealer?

Thanks

99% of the time you can disassemble and clean the carbs without buying anything except the cleaner.Just remember to remove the rubber and plastic parts before using any cleaners. They eat those parts up quickly.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

I also have a 2001 and searching for rebuilt parts.  I want to replace the o-rings but don't know which ones I need to replace.  In the service manual, it says you need to replace the float bowl gasket.  Do I need to replace these orings and gasket?

Also, what type of cleaner should I use?
