More than 500 bikers furious over fuel prices brought a city to a standstill yesterday

The road in convoy at just 15mph ( Just thought id add the Speed on a motorway is 70 mph)  on motorways into the city of manchester

There rush hour procession was joined by lorrys. taxis, land rovers and a ice cream truck, Commuters honked there horns and waved in support

Biker clubs in the manchester area are just as angry, they want the prime minister Gordan Brown to scrap VAT on petrol. And there Protest which caused 1000's of motorists arriving late for work , coincided with labour backbench to ditch a fuel duty increase planned for this autumn.

One organiser calling himself 'Maverick' said 'this protest has been absolutely fantastic , i cant thank these guys enough, they've really helped to get the word out'

Eric Curren 56, said ' Ive been biking for 40 years and costs have never been as bad as this, i dont have any other means of transport so its essential for me to get about.'

'Fuel duty in this country is outrageous , the goverment are making a killing on the back of the motorists , i hope that people continue to keep on going, and that the goverment starts listening '

Automobile Association figures show that only 48p of a 1.15p a litre  of petrol is for production, Delivery and retail margin , Duty is 50p and a further 17p . In Ireland total Tax is 35p a litre , In Spain its just 31p

I think it's kind of unusual that bikers are the one's protesting the gas prices, since we get some of the best gas mileage out there. You'd think it would be all the cagers protesting.

I think we should organize something like that here in the states.

Jay, I never understood the ungodly high prices in Europe for gas. Truly I never did. We had cheap fuel to be sure. "NOW", all we hear on the lobotomy box is how "we should be thankful" here in the USA. Our fuel prices are now rising to that of Europe. It's all part of "making us all equal". Don't think that it  doesn't mean global taxes coming out of your paycheck either. The sorry God Damn UN (may God forgive me for typing it) with it's Billionaire backers is doing ALL it can do to bend the taxpayer over the proverbial stump and slap it's scrotum against our buttocks. You actually have people in this country that THINK the UN is the answer to all.
You have at LEAST one of them running for President. Be prepared for "global taxes". That is all in the making my friend.

The Brits have been getting raped on fuel prices for so long that for many of them the only way they can afford to commute is on a bike and now even at that it is going beyond what they can afford.

Our dollar still goes further domestically than their pound we still have a higher standard of living in the states and even at the current oprresive levels signifgantly less of big brother taking care of us by taking most of what we earn.

Of course the vision for the US to take care of our health care and insurance and everything else associted with a utopian cradle to the grave society has already been tried and huge numbers of people ride bikes because it is the only motorized transport they can even come close to affording and now apparently may not even be able to afford that, just look to the UK as the model society everyone is going to be voting for in the fall.

here in Canada we produce the 2nd largest amount of oil outside of OPEC in the world.  you would think that would protect us from high gas prices..you would be wrong.  i guess compared to Britain our 1.30 cents a liter is a bargain.  but as noticed before our taxes pay for our social safety net.  how many times do you see a gas guzzler mini van, truck, SUV etc going by with one person in it.  i remember the gas shortages of the 70's. compared to that we are doing great.  there are no lines, no signs saying "no gas" "out of gas"  and production was at a stand still.   by choice i don't own a car, i have not had one since 2001.  it can be inconvenient at times but that is just that...inconvenient.   fuel efficiency, alternate transport methods such as walking, bikes and public tansit are very underutilized.  who knows we may see the rebirth of the train industry now.  there are 3 main things that are taxed highly because they are luxuries or "sins".  alcohol, tobacco and fuel.  it may be a stretch by adding fuel but as stated above there is much waste going on and high prices will force those people who use way too much gas compared to their peers to either pay up or cut down.

How much is petrol in the UK now?  Around here it's about $4.50/Gallon.  I won't be happy until the national average is $5.00/gal for low-grade... 

Then, I won't be unhappy until it hits $8.00/gal.  Hopefully, that won't be for a few years.  We gotta have time to make 100% electric bikes and cars more affordable.


And really, who's shocked by high gas prices?  We, in the US, were all warned in the 70s...  Perhaps we should have listened.

Well, my commute is less than 10 miles on my GS500.  So, even at $10/gal I would be paying much less than the average person.

If I wasn't fat and lazy, I could ride a bicycle to work and home.
