Customer of mine has a 1998 Suzuki Intruder 800 and the speedometer cable sheered.  I replaced it and the new one sheered after about 15 miles.  Issue is that the forks are too long and it's pulling the cable very, very tight.  The bike is 100% stock and I installed a factory cable.  I think the bike just needs a longer cable but I don't know where to look.  Any suggestions?

Send me ... and send like $30, I'll get my guys to do a 4 -8 inch longer cable.

Are you sure that bike doesn't have those fork extention things I hear the old chopper guys talk about? They talk about using some kind of fork extender that screws into the fork where the cap goes, then insert a spacer, recap the fork, and install.Maybe stiffer springs or longer spacers?  :dunno_white:
PICS are GONE never TO return.

cd

go look at bikes and find one with a longer cable. hahahahah

i just make the parts guys go get random shaZam! until what i want works, they are retarded, what model, what model, i dont f%$king care, go back there and get something or i will. parts are all the effing same for basic stuff.

I couldn't find one at the local zook joint that had a longer cable and it's hard to convince my dealer to buy stuff for me to try until I get one that works.

I'm doing a bit more research but I'm probably going to end up going the s*****h (Incognito dude)  route.

Dealers are bound to give you a seriously hard time, you have to pay for crap and wait, and if it dont work ... tough shaZam! ...
A junkyard that you can wander about and fish and measure and duck around and check is a great option, but those are few and far between ... in TX near houston there was none ... OK there was like 1/2. Charlotte is not great, but for cables these guys will make to my spec ... like I tell them make the thing exactly as it is here but 6 inches longer, and they'd re use the ends, or I can run around in their yard and find similar ends ... and then your cable is intact. Typically my virago cables, I dont even bother, I lose a clutch cable every 6 months (or in a 2 year period I did) ... and I had them make it, but the third time (yea we're all really sharp cookies, took us 3 times ) ... I thought the outer is also bad and that's why its breaking often ... and it was ... anyway that was 2 yrs ago ... its not broken since (knock on wood). Lost the throttle cable a month ago though.
Anyway, let me know mak. I run there every other week. So Its prolly due for a trip there ... but gas $$ ... so I go only when I have 100 things to look for.
