Well from another battery , the amount of work needed for the mod would be intense , but that brings me down to the charging of the battery , unless its modifyed to power the Second battery , which it wouldnt work , as u would just skip the second battery if u could get a battery to charge of the cr lump...

Thinking like a Dyno on the rear wheel , im sure u could find one that could be modified to run off the rear wheel , thus charging the second battery, which would power the lights , indicators , brakes etc ..

I was thinking using say a Dna Wiring loom , the battery is half the size of a Gs battery to it would be easy to put on the bike.. its a 12 volt , then modify the controls, with the second loom ... It would be a ton of work .. Still Sounds like a fun project :thumb:

Service Honda can set the CR500 up for any of your ignition/charging/lighting systems.

Rewind the stator to increase higer out put, put in a charging system, yadda yadda yadda
Have you learned the lessons only of those who admired you, and were tender with you, and stood aside for you? Have you not learned great lessons from those who braced themselves against you, and disputed passage with you?

Their website quotes a max output of 130watts which is still way short of what the GS needs when everything is lit-up. The problem with trying to get more power is physical space, if you want more power you need bigger coils and more powerful magnets, or you drop the Magneto design alltogether and use a more compact and powerful 3ph Alternator and Reg/Rect like the one on the GS.

I think it could be done Jay.  Hell anything can be done....it all depends on how badly you want it to be done!

Theres no way in hell i can have a Cr500 engine shipped over, would cost me the price of a Leg

You need to run a headlight (HID conversion, 30w)
Turn Signals (LED, 5w total, max)
Brake Light (LED, splurge, 10w)
Instrument lighting (10w?)

There should be plenty of wattage to keep the batter up and power the ignition at that point.  People dual sport CR500s, what does a GS have thats sucking down extra juice over a dual sported dirt bike?

Jay Wolf you're correct.I have 4 GS's.

I understand all the points everyone is making about the electrical.I haven't decided if I wanna do this.I haven't located an CR500 engine or bike. The bike on craig's list was street legal with all lighting.I didn't ask about the electrics.I liked the idea then but wasn't fond of 2 strokes on the street.I only had 2 bikes then. Now I can experiment a little. The bike wouldn't be a long haul bike or commuter.Just a liter bike raper like Jay said.I'd love to see the look on a Busa riders face as I fly by on a naked GS.Oh wait,I won't be able to see that because I'll be gone before they can cry.

Stock GS has the following......... (info from the service manual)

Headlamp 55/60w (hi and low beam)
Tail light 5w (x2)
Brake light 21w (x2)
Indicator light 21w (x2 at any one time)
Tacho,and speedo pilots 3.4w each
Indicator neutral and oil pressure pilots 3.4w each
Hi-beam pilot 1.7w
Horn, not quoted call it 25w
Ignition circuit, not quoted call it 10w

......and thats before the battery gets charged. True you could loose a few things and fit some low power LEDS  but then the question arises over the practicality and legality of the bike if you intend to use it on the road on a day to day basis.
Indicator relay not quoted call it 5w

i agree when it comes to quads.

i'm no bike expert, but why not just set up the gs alternator (although i don't really know how the alternator looks, or if a conversion is possible) to work on the cr? then you could keep using the whole system, less the ignition, from the gs. all you need to do is get the gs alternator turning by the cr's power, and send power to the ignition of the cr. i can't think of anything else that would need to be changed.

but it's been a long day, so i may have forgotten the alphabet at the same time

spc

Ummm, because parts of the 'alternator' are attached to the flywheel that is individually balanced to the specific bike and to the case, again very specific to a bike or series of bikes.

KasbeKZ

ummmm.

well that is difficult. but i'm sure there is an alternator somewhere that will serve as a generic replacement. but i guess that is the problem, finding that one.

I could prolly get electrosport to build me something custom.
