konna

Hi, I'm konna from Finland. I ride a 1996 Honda CB SevenFifty.

My partner rides a 1999 GS500e that they have been fixing as a learning project. It was in a sorry state but now mostly everything has been fixed and is working great. What a fun bike! I've been helping them with the repairs and this forum has been of great help so I decided to join.

short/rider

Hi, I'm short/rider from the US. I recently picked up a 96 GS500E with few miles on it. It's working out as a great little knock-around bike.

phlogistian

Hello, All, I'm Robert from Wisconsin. I have a 1989 GS500E that I bought from the original owner in about 1993. So I've had it for about 30 years now. I can tell you more about my history with it and my history with GSTwin.com, but it's gonna be a kinda long boring story, so you might want to just click away right now...   :D

Ok, since you're still reading...

Once upon a time...

Around 1992 I decided I wanted to go road racing and at the time there was a CCS racing class called Sportsman that was a kinda catch-all for smaller bikes. EX500, GS500E, Honda Ascot, and others. I bought my GS500E from the original owner, a guy who had bought it new & immediately stripped it down to race. My bike has actually never been licensed for the street – it's been a race bike its whole life. Well, I raced it in mostly stock configuration for a while, then built a 555cc engine using the (no longer available) Wiseco 555 kit. This worked pretty good, but the class allowed up to 650cc for air cooled twins, so I had custom pistons & sleeves made, a hot rod head built & blah, blah, blah. Well, that engine never quite worked for a couple reasons & I eventually got frustrated enough that I bought a GSXR600 to race & the GS got pushed to the back of the garage. This was around 1998. I raced the Gixxer for  few years, then bought an R6 to race. It was an absolute rocket. The Gixxer was easier to ride, but the R6 was faster... Well, anyway, I raced in SuperSport 600 for a while & then eventually stopped racing around 2012. The Gixxer was long gone & I sold the R6, but the GS was still sitting in the back of the garage. And still sitting... And still sitting... So that's the short version of my race career. (insert yawn emoji here...)

OK, now that you know that I was racing the GS from around 1993 to about 1998, it'll come as no surprise that I was active on the GSTwins website for a while in the 90's. I have no idea what my screen name was back then, so I had to make up a new one to register today (as if the old one would still be functional after all these years). Maybe now that I'm a member again I'll poke around the archives & see if I can find any of my old posts, just out of curiosity.

OK, so why am I back? Well, I'm not quite ready to give up the ol' GS, but I am past my days of racing, so I'm trying to clean out the garage a bit. I have bins full of GS500E stuff, mostly stock stuff, but also some kinda cool racing stuff. I guess I'll create another post to list out what I have that I want to pass on. Spoiler alert: I'm not interested in making money off this stuff, I just want it out of my garage & I'd prefer it goes to someone with a passion for this bike & that maybe will help others benefit from the stash. For example, I made a mold for a fiberglass tailsection/solo seat that someone could use to make more tailsections. It's my hope that whoever takes over stewardship of the mold would make parts for whoever enthusiasts might want one, without trying to make a fortune off of them. I can always hope, right? Anyways, I'll create another post with pics of what I've got & we can start the discussion.

So now I think you have an idea of who I am & why I'm here!

Thanks all, & especially to the mods & crew who have kept this forum going for all these years!

haybaler

Old Guy from Berkeley, California. I worked in shops 1970's, 1980's, til around 1993. Honda, Yamaha and Suzuki, mostly. Bought a 2001 GS500, only 21,000 miles, rode home from SF. Changed out the exhaust, and went in to tinker with the carbs. Should be back together this week, just in time for prime riding weather.

Cheers!

TassieGS

Tassie GS here, from Tasmania only made two posts so far. Bought a project 2007 GS full fairing. It was pretty rough when I got it home, worse than I thought, and missing parts and as I'm slowly painting it and repairing damage I've discovered a few problems that were hidden from sight and were not mentioned by the PO. It's a bike for the wife to learn on so I need to make it look right and safe.

Krazer12

Krazer12 here from London, ON.  I have a 2007 GS500F stripped down, with a purple tank.  I'm still working out the kinks, but it's my first bike, and I'm excited to take it everywhere.  If anyone wants to ride together, I'm sure we can meet up.
