Battery Box In, Will it Fit Lunchbox?

Only time will tell if it fits in this location in a peaceful manner with the K+N Lunchbox.

Theres a great overhead pic of a Lunchbox on this site and it shows the K+N stopping just short of the forward weld (Closest to engine) of the top shock mount.

I made a beveled tower about 13/16th's tall out of square tubing, I centered this on the bottom side of the battery box and welded it on. I then positioned the box and tower centered on the top shock mount, about 3/16th's behind the forward most facing weld and Mig'ed it to the shock mount. The battery has about a half inch of clearance from the tanks under side and only a minor portion of the box itself is visible from the sides.

I cut most of the tangs and oddities off of the box and only have one more tab to cut. I next plan on either making a tray between the upper rails to mount and hide all the electronics and or use the back of the battery box to mount some items as well.

Heres the pics.

You'll have a fun time putting everything in.It looks like it will fit if you can remove the battery box long enough for the K&N install.

Um, Nope the battery box is permanent, sh** didn't think of the actual install, ARgh......

Wow, that's looking great.  It'll definitely fit.  Wish I had the time and money, cause you're doing exactly what I want to do (monster seat, and move everything that's cluttering up the rear)

what you could do is make a removable front bracket.  The battery could come out and that front bracket comes out, that way everything can fit in easy...just cut off that one that's there now and fab up a new one.

Or, just cut off that front bracket, and hold the battery in with a strap going around the rest of it...or forget the bracket all together, cause the battery will be held in place on the front side by the air filter.

It will vibrate around and loose it's acid solution.Plus the Filter will be rubbed thru in just a few miles and suck unfiltered air.

Then strap it or bracket.  Try to fit it in before you go through all the trouble, cause it may be close, but could still fit in as is.

Thinking ahead I did weld in a nut, halfway down in the square tubing thats holding the box up however I ended up just welding everything together.

I had planned on making the box bolt to the tube which would have still been welded to the shock mount yet I decided against it because I would have had a large bolt head centered in the bottom of the battery box cocking the battery one way or the other.

If I cannot sqeeze the K+N in with this fixed mount I will cut the batter box off of the tube, cut a elongated grove lengthwise down the center of the bottom of the battery box just large enough for a bolt to go through. I will ground the bolt head down to the bare minimum height and trim the rubber cushion in this area or build it up on the sides of this elongated groove so the battery can lie flat once in. This elongated groove will allow me to slide the battery box for and aft a couple of inches...

Damn this 96 degree heat, 2 hours of measuring, cutting, grinding, and welding in it, leaves to crappy ill thought out work, Argh.

I would give it a try before ripping apart the work that's already done.Suzuki specs weren't the closest on the GS frame.Plus there maybe descepencies between pics.

Looks like nice setup.  Looking forward to the pics when it's all done.  By the way, I noticed you have a filter coming off the breather tube.  Can you tell me where I can get one?  I've got a lunchbox setup and the hose is just dangling there :icon_rolleyes:
