Has anyone seen those chopper kits where they take a Buell sportbike and transfer everything  to a chopper frame (like Redneck Customs)?
I am thinking of doing the same. Haven't found anyone who is making frames for a GS transplant. I know most ppl here hate me right now for destroying such a nice bike, but these motors are bombproof. Right now its a stunt bike and it has held up like a champ with minimal damage ( small scratches on rear fairings only). Any help would be appreciated. :thumb: :cookoo: :cookoo: :dunno_white: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted: :icon_twisted:

I would think the guy with the most experience in anything close to this would be Jim Knopf. Although I think his bike's utilize the gs frame. You may still want to contact him, or at least have a look at his work.

There are no aftermarket frames or kits for the GS motor or any componates. With enough money and skill it would work.As stated above Jim Knopf is the man on this but he heavily modifies the gs frame. Also,he is located in Germany,IIRC.

IIRC=if I remember correctly
PICS are GONE never TO return.

I have seen a GS motored FrankenCruizer a couple of years ago around my town , looked horribly wrong on that particular bike

I guess the motor was forced into some cruizer's frame   :dunno_white:

IIRC it might have been a frame of Suzuki Intruder

hmm. your engine is going to have a nervous break down. you're going to take it from it's native twisties carving frame, bash on it as a stunner bike for a while, and now confine it to nothing but posing in a chawhahahahapper frame ? ok, whatever, i won't bash ya.

wouldn't be too difficult to fab up a few mounts. better make em out of rubber, so it will shake all over, and don't forget the slash cut pipes !

ok, i guess i am bashing chawhahahappers now, sorry. :)

actually, if you think about it , it would be easier (hey, isn't that what choppers are all about ?) to just remove the gs's shock, weld the swingarm solid at full compression, and then put some 18" fork extenders on it ? heck, they you wouldn't have to lift that heavy engine once ! woot !

servus,

i have this old BMW-Frame:

the usd is from aprilia and the mods are still in work.

Wait a minute a Buell engine in a chopper? Isn't that a bit redundant?   :icon_lol:

The Buddha

I think the GS motor is an easy fit into a savage frame. It may also be stuffed into a rebel frame I am sure, intruder maybe, but their frames are just plain ugly ... the intruder itself while ugly isn't too bad ... but GS motor will leave too much of an air gap and look totally like crap ... and there is the fact that no other tank will fit it and the intruder tank looks like sheite and is tiny ...
In any case, yea its a BS project ... savage itself is a great bike that is easy to chop and will be lighter and more robust than the GS. Better motor ... roller bearing crank etc etc.
Cool.

But Jim,you can take an ugly bike and make it look like modern art master piece.I really enjoy seeing your bikes and watching their progress.  :thumb:

You could probably use a GS450 frame and add a hardtail kit to it.  If you go to www.thechopperunderground.com you'll find a bunch of people that make frames and hardtail kits.

ohgood

what is the attraction to hard tails ?

i mean, if you want to toss out the technology of suspension, why not use babbitt bushings, solid tires, and never wear a helmet to complete the project ?

I have such an itch to get a old school style bobber to accompany my GS. Something simple yet beautiful with drag bars. It doesn't need to be fast. I wouldn't mind a 200 cc engine.
