So I took a trip up to Delaware from Virginia to buy my first bike. It's an 89 GS500E, and it's what I've been looking for, for a long time. I'd like to thank Rhenter on this forum for being so cool about selling me his baby, and for calling every ten minutes because I kept getting lost! I plan on taking real good care of this bike, and keeping it for as long as I can. I do need a few odds and ends for it so if you wouldn't mind checking out my WTB thread in the for sale section I'd really appriciate it. I LOVE MY GSE!

Why is an '89 desirable? Is it just because that was the first year of manufacturer? Sort of like the 'first edition' thing with books?
Mods thus far:

14 tooth front sprocket
Complete paint job, red to black
Oxford heated grips
Fenderectomy
GSXR foot pegs

...much more to come!

These are the ones Rhenter gave me when he first told me about the bike. Ive since put the stock mirrors back on.

By the by, why is the 89 more desireable? I like it because it's the first year it was made. I'm an old school japanese kinda guy, ask my 87 Toyota Cressida. 8)

I would say because it is the only year it had factory clip on handlebars.

89 is desireable in the US  because of the clip ons.For the racers it was the aluminum suspension links, and rocker. Also 89 came with either nearly all white or all black body work.As the years went on they got more colorful body work and stickers.
PICS are GONE never TO return.
