It's been a while since I tore the carbs apart, and getting them back together has been an interesting project this weekend. I have everything back in its home, with the exception of two tiny little o rings I'm not so sure about. I've searched quite a bit, and I'm thinking that they belong in the brass seat that the needle goes into- OK, Only problem is, they don't want to go back in...  They're in ok condition, but what with the assumed swelling, I figured I would just order new ones.

Herein is the problem... My local shop tells me that to get the o ring, I need to order the needle valve assembly for 50ish bucks apiece- I'm confident that this is a load of crap, but  I've looked through the parts fiche and I can't find a part number to order separately..

Someone has to have been here before - who can I order new rubber from? (it could use new float bowl seals and main jet o rings too.)

When taking carbs apart for the first time, it is very common to miss the two o-rings that fit into the top (see #26 of the wiki fiche: http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Main/Carbs).

The o-rings you have may be these?

If you've missed the #26 o-rings, you will notice lean running and high idling. See this thread for some more info:

You can get the vacuum test port o-rings from most well-stocked farm stores or industrial supplies.  Buna-N or equivalent compound is what you want.

As far as the float bowl seals, dunno other than the dealer.  How are your diaphragms?  They should feel soft and supple.  If they're hard, or show signs of cracking, time to replace!
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

I sell a whole O rings pack - 4 O ring pairs and maybe if you need a pair of the air screw O rings all labelled and stuck to a sheet of paper $10 and shipping. $12 total.

SONUVA  !!   :o

I never saw #26 on the fiche - that's the ones though, :embarassed:

I may be able to get some more mileage out of the carb bowl seal, and the diaphragm is doing fine.. so frustrating when a tiny piece of rubber is the only thing keeping you off the road on a great weekend.

Thanks so much for your prompt help.. I may get this baby resurrected before the summer is over.
