Who out here likes to fish?

Well for starters....I like to fish....but due to gas prices and since I have to travel approximately 60 miles for my fishing spot, I am cutting down on my traveling ( even though my Impreza uses approximately 1 gallon to every 20-25 miles ) to save gas. With the GS I can use approximately a gallon for one way trip...sounds like a plan but where can I put all my fishing gear? :dunno_white:..............

anyway....I figured I can cut down on stuff that I bring while fishing....I guess cooler has to go and maybe replace it with a back pack.
anyway......anyone here like to fish and maybe tell me what you do as far as set up...fishing rod, tackle box and with the summer heat need some cold drinks too ( pics would be great, but if not I will use my imagination  ;)

thanks

I'd go with smaller cooler, tacklebox, maybe saddlebags if need be to carry some stuff. I cant begin to tell ya the stuff I've carried on my old GS when I had it.  why I strapped the spare wheel to the rear seat once to bring it home. looked mighty funny, but I done gone and did it.

they do make a backpack for fishing i actually own one and its wonderfull  :thumb: it comes with 2 or 3 clear boxes and you can split your pole in half and put it in the bag. i just zip it up where the pole is sicking out  of the bag sideways so it dont scatch the helmet but you can look up fishing backpacks.

GET A BACK REST from some random cruiser, bolt it on, and tie an 18 inch milk crate to the front of it, on the seat behind you, or on the other side if it has a carry rack and you prefer that, cut the bottom out of another and zip tie/tie them together to make it twice the volume if you want more. i do that on my nighthawk, i can carry a ton of shaZam!, also have a shopping cart for my nighthawk for car kits and big stuff. or get a giant ass duffel bag, scuba shops and surplus stores are decent places to get BIG sturdy bags for cheap, and craigslist.

I have been thinking of this myself. Not so much for gas as parking. Plenty of good spots near me are legal if you bicycle in or walk in but a car parked will get you a ticket if not a tow. This is more dual sport territory in my case but I'd buy a locking topcase (Givi) set up, insert a soft cooler, and bolt a white plastic rod/plier/knife holder (any boat store sells them) to it. A ratchet strap should ensure that it stays on.

Sounds like a telescopic rod would be nice.  It would probably fit in your backpack just fine.  A guy at work bought one to hide in his truck so he could go straight to the pond from work without his old lady knowing he wasn't just working late.  :icon_mrgreen:  How big of fish are we talking here?  I'm not sure how sturdy most of those rods are...

Thanks for all the reply guys... I did not know they make a backpack tackle box and I will surely look for them. Its a good thing I got a collapsible rod ( cuts in two ) to cut the length but I have to figure out how to strap it on the gs without having to look too funny :cookoo:

as far as the fish..........I fish at a jetty so I catch trout and other stuff, caught a 25 inch red drum last time I went :thumb: and hit my bag limit for the speckled trout.
that was the best day I have gotten in a while, so know I am planning on my next trip already.

thanks for the advise

A friend and I go fishing all the time on our bikes

I only take a very small kit (tackle box) about 3X6X2  has hooks, sinkers, lures etc... I have a small live bait box (worms), and I take 2 RODS, 6 pack of beer, some times food, and more! =) and sometimes even my small folding chair!  :icon_mrgreen:

All this I pack in my regular old backpack.. it is actually a laptop backpack.  :icon_mrgreen: Anyway.. the rods collapse ( in half like most) and only stick out maybe 12". everything else (including room for a 6 pack  :icon_mrgreen: ) is in the back pack. i strap the backpack to the rear seat of the GS w/ a bungee net  :thumb:

Fish on!

ya baby ! those rock !

i'd never have considered biking to fish, but man that would make for a great saturday. one of my favorite fishing spots as a child will be within biking distance when we move. i'll be taking my son there, and eventually on the bike.

woot woot !
