I have been wanting to get some nicer boots than my old leather steel toe combat boots for riding and comfort during the day.  I also wanted something tougher than short casual boots that may not offer too much protection.

So I opted for a military style boot.
Bates GX-8.

Very comfortable for all day wearing at work and very nicely constructed.  The heal area has a combination of rubber and leather to create a nice sturdy construction.  The zipper side and lacing tabs make for a really nice on-off experience.

This is by no means a boot to take out racing, but for around town I think this is a good compromise over a heavy hiking boot.

Are they waterproof?

They look good. There are good options out there that tick all the boxes. These are mine - I was looking for something I could wear at work when I was running late and had no time to change...

Mods thus far:

14 tooth front sprocket
Complete paint job, red to black
Oxford heated grips
Fenderectomy
GSXR foot pegs

...much more to come!

I've got the Alpinestar Ridge boots, which are waterproof. I'm not sure if I could spend 8 hours on my feet in them working though.

I've considered just leaving a pair of shoes to wear AT work.  As of right now, I'm sort of squidish.   :cookoo:  I wear my basketball shoes--which also are fine for all day wear.  I need to get some real riding boots!
2000 GS500E -- Fenderectomy, Super tidy and tiny cheapo turn signals from Ebay THAT DO LIKE TO BLOW BULBS!!! =[ ...

The Bates boots are waterproof Gore-tex lined.
I've seen those Icon short boots, they seemed nice but when I started pricing I realized I could get some military grade tactical boots with even better construction for the same price.

Considering I saw two Harley riders today with flipflops on I feel I did OK.

I have some cheapo hi-tec boots that are all leather, and totally waterproof with gore tex.  I wore them on a 110 mile ride in the rain and they held up like champs.  I just want something with armor around the ankles so that I have them in the event that I go down at speed.
GS500E with a bunch of cool stuff!
