lol it would be a fun project BUT...
The ol hag gets on my back when i get toys by 'accident', toys being cars etc.
I wonder how she would react if i came home and said "honey... i kinda bought 3 planes... can i put em in the livingroom next to the bike?"
Would be something along the lines of   :cookoo: then  and finally  :2guns:

Short of being able to find a good condition original part, you'd probably be looking at 50+hrs of labor for an exact replica to be fabricated.  Figure $200/hr for the labor and then parts.  I have a suspicion my estimate is in the low range.......yeah you'd probably be looking at 10-20k for a good condition vintage or a custom fabricated replica.... :cookoo:

depending on serial, unit, etc.  Restored P-51's regularly hit the 7 figure mark.

Ugh, without wings, things change.  I don't know what the availability of P40 wings looks like, but I can't imagine that they are easy to find.  Going the custom route would require first finding old blueprints, then a specialist willing to undertake the task and it wouldn't surprise me if it ended up being 1000+hours a wing to get them to be an exact match.
