I had a long reply typed out but just deleted it - its not worth arguing as the old fogies are set in their ways and wont change.

Maybe its time for some competition.....  let the people decide for themselves.

I remember a post by the owner, many moons ago, about the use of this forum.
Essentially out of a bazillion registered members, waaaay less than .01% were active.

I exaggerate, but the point is that there aren't enough people having a problem to justify messing with a working thing. Plenty of newbs get what they want as it is. This isn't a retail store and customer satisfaction is really the customer's responsibility in this marketplace.

There is a breakoff page, I mentioned it earlier, that links back to this forum and is more topical for new visitors or members. This works as well as it does because of the people that contribute to it.

What do you expect for free? Otherwise, is anyone willing to pay for the knowledge and experience those of us who have contributed have provided out of the goodness of our hearts?

As I mentioned before, compete away. Competition is a good thing. Many will help.

But be warned. If you succeed, someone eventually will start bitching about the way you run your forum. "There's not enough VR engine tuning and the active threading is not as good as GS Galaxy 3000".

Nuff said.

it's rather frustrating to see the complete lack of discussion on the part of people set in their ways. You should have seen all the hell that was raised when i suggested that the Ninja250 forum change to something that was remotely useable (have you seen the thing!!!) but most forums are split up as such, and it's for a reason. I don't think there should be 100 sub forums, but a few would be good, to keep the clutter down and keep applicable active topics on the front page. It might not have been an issue in the past, but as forums grow as this one most certainly is, changes need to be made. A better analogy than the clothes one is this: A two lane road is just fine with limited traffic, but when the traffic gets too much for the road, you just get jams. Sooner or later you'll need a 4 lane road

The laundry and road analogies are great and all....  :icon_razz: but IMO, this forum isn't yet at the point where it needs to be split up. You can log in every other day and there's not even a full page of new posts (if the hug amount of stickies wasn't taking up half the page!). So now, if I want to catch up, I just scroll, and one click to page 2. If there were 3, 5, N subforums, I'd have to click on each subforum to catch up, taking more time. Inevitably, people start not looking at the extra subforums if they're not active or the topic isn't usually their cup of tea. Then, you post a question in the right subforum, it's something a few people could have answered, but they're not looking at that one anymore, and fewer heads get together to come up with a solution.

I've seen some otherwise useful forums get fractured by too many subforums. I have to click 10 different places to read maybe 10 new posts. Fun! Obviously a forum has to be split up at some point, I just don't think we're there yet.

If I had only 10 articles of clothing, I would keep them in a single pile.

If I had 10 cars per day, I'd keep the road 1 lane.

I vote we wait until there are about double the active posts/people/cars/clothes we have now.

Are you saying that you go around trying to change forums, because you think they need to be changed?  :dunno_white: I think maybe I'm confused.  :icon_confused: Are you a forum specialist that does charity work?  :dunno_white: Yea,I'm confused.Nothing new about that.

um... only 22 people voted on this bad boy... seems like a non issue. thats even if voting should count for anything here (which is a better debate btw)(ps. for the odds and ends section)...

this is not a democracy. we should all say thanks to the creators and the mods.

is it really that bad?  :dunno_white:

can we please stop

No, I'm someone who is frustrated when things are done in a less than optimal way just because that's the way it was done before and someone said so.

I'm not saying this forum is bad by any means, merely that it could be improved. Either way, I've voiced my opinion, so I'm done. I hope the owner/mod/admins take this idea into consideration
