Perhaps my petcock isn't bad. And the factory targa (cowling?) mount is stuupid.

So, I still haven't so much as taken off the gas tank (this bike is to ride, not to be more project).

Got to looking around while finally having burned into my brain from thinking I need to fix the petcock what hose goes where - and I find that the reserve inlet is connected to the carbs, the outlet is connected to reserve, and the on inlet is connection to on. So I tried switching to reserve (having gotten the bike in prime, and found it would not run in on, I never bothered with reserve) and it did not run out of gas after .5 mile. Still don't know for sure if the thing is working on vacuum or pre-modified, but I lose yet more respect for the last idiot who worked on it.

As for the factory targa, dang but the mount is designed to make adjusting the headlight as hard as it can possibly be made (and that's after taking the fairing off it) - what a freaking obnoxious design (not to mention the whole targa sits too far forward by design - in front of, rather than around the headlight - leaving the abbreviated little windshield too far forward to keep the rain off the gauges). Headlight was pointed at the sky...

There is a problem with the fairing some where. It should seal against the head light rim and adjusting the headlight should need nothing more than loosening the clamps to the handle bars.

Here's mine modded to fit and 89 with clip ons.It is now  mounted on the same bike with a Katana front end.

give you 27 cents for that chin spoiler =-P

NO!It's the matching Targa spoiler that goes with my 1/4 fairing.

Yours looks a bit different. I figured mine was cheesy aftermarket until I tripped across this:

Which matches mine exactly (Factory fiche at bike bandit).

That stupid U shaped mount makes getting a pair of wrenches on the headlight adjuster a royal pain. Has no top mount like yours, and a smaller windscreen. I guess it's called a "Cowling" in the part sheet - I've always heard targa used generically for that particular sort of small fairing (moves with handlebars). Perhaps yours is a "real Targa-brand targa", and mine is a Suzuki targa-clone.

If this bike ever had the lower it doesn't now.

Since half the mount is directly to the headlight side bolts (via little stand-offs - part #7), it can't get any closer to the headlight itself - and it would need deeper notches for the signal stalks to do so. A "good looking" version IMO would sit around the headlight so that the lens was either flush to the front, or only recessed 1/4 inch (6mm) or so.

I got a generic fairing off Eaby for 42.00 and it just has two slide clamps that fit behind the headlight nuts. Then the fairing screws to them.Takes 3min to take off!  It fits firmly in place.
Well, either you're part of the problem, part of the solution,...
