Honda Accord Car Tecks, Look Inside

2001 (I think) Honda Accord V-6 2 Dr. coupe, 150K mileage.

It's my Grandmothers car, passed down to her from my family who owned it since new.

She goes out to start it today and it won't start so she calls me to help. When I get there and try to start it it briefly starts but I wasn't quick enough with the Gas Pedal to keep it running and it stalls out and won't start again, though it spins over fine, plenty of jiuce from the battery and such.

Being that it's 90+ degrees out with High Humidity I wasn't inclined to work on it much, I made a brief visual inspection of the engine bay, all the connectors seem OK and connected, all vacuum lines are on and in good shape, no leaks that I can see.

The CEL came on about a month or so ago but I never got the code read so I don't know what code it's throwing, though I know it is throwing codes as the CEL is still on.

The Gas Gauge reads a bit more than a 1/4 of a tank, for some reason though I believe it isn't getting any fuel? It tried to start and stay running twice today, each time the motor would light then die out very soon, it wouldn't stumble or cough to a stop, it would just die out.

When it gets cooler Im going to try spraying some gas right into the TB and see if I can get it running that way, if so I would assume that would indicate some fuel delivery issues, perhaps the FP or a clogged filter?

So can any of you techs or gurus point me in the right direction? Is there any terminal(s) I can jump to get the codes, I know with my GF's civic I was able to jump the Diagnostic port with a paper clip and do a certain type of key cycling and get audible beeps to indicate the CEL code, can this be done with the accord, if so how?

Thanks.

Update, a few weeks ago a Large Large tree fell right near this car and the root ball that got tore up dented in the gas door area a bit and left it filled with dirt.

I just went out there to check the gas cap to see if some joker left it loose, and while it was somewhat loose the area was filled with dirt. I took the cap off, re applied it clicking it 4-5 times, when I tried starting the car it fired right up.

I brought the car to my garage and blew out the Gas Door/Cap area as the vent was clogged with dirt as well.

The Maintainece Light is still on, not the CEL like I originally thought, so Ill go and get a free code scan and have them reset the light, I think the Maintaience light is mileage based?

Disaster averted, I hope.

  no seriously, i was gonna as you if your gas cap was tight enough. something similar happened to my mother once but her car was an alero. weird how something so simple as tightening the gas cap all the way can have that large of an impact. i'm guessing it has something to do with vaccum pressure?  :dunno_white: haven't gotten to that section in my auto tech stuff yet.  :icon_mrgreen:

The Gas cap issue is that with it loose your introducing more hydrocarbons into the atmosphere and the CPU notices that and trips the CEL/Maintainence light....

In my area of PA our emissions inspection consists of removing your gas cap and testing it w/ a machine.. Test Costs like $22 to see "if" your cap is bad :cookoo: While buying a new gascap costs about $7  :dunno_white: So.. it would make more sense for them to just make you buy a new one every year
