K heres the problem. i was doing that funeral escort today on my gs, and  it being a 90f day i noticed a knocking/clattering between 5k and 6k. and ONLY in 5th or sixth , plus she was like a bazillion degrees. and im thinkin Awwwww f%$k no oil. but no, i checked her, and shes full. so oil is not a problem. im thinkin perhaps her main is a bit on the lean side. ( which might explain the overheating part?), btw no knocking/clatter at any other range/gear

but why the extreme heat?, i mean teh dipstick was burning my fingers lol. yeah the chain does need some oil, i cant explain the heat though. BUT you might have a point . will have to check into this. the reason i brought up running lean is. my pip i welded on. ( my gix 1k can ), but i just went outside, and there is some excessive slack on the chain. ill check that tomorrow. cause shes doin the escort run to the cemetary tuesday. so shes gotta be able to do it :thumb:

About normal. It's an air-cooled engine, it's summertime, it's going to be hot. If you were riding painfully slow it might be hotter, but if you were up around 5 and 6 K in 5th and 6th gear, you were plenty fast enough for functional air cooling. With some aluminum foil to keep the food clean and the right location, you can cook roadkill (or bake potatoes) as you ride...
