I'm sorry but that looks like terrible body position, seems as if you are just trying to get your knee down and nothing else.

Keith Code, is that you? LOL That is your opinion and I respect it but I have one question, what am I doing wrong?

I'm looking through the turn, chest is on the tank, head is trying to kissing the palm of my hands/mirror, right elbow is relaxed on the tank, left elbow is relaxed pointing down, back is straight and not crossed up, hanging off with half ass, left knee is relaxed and not trying to drag knee, right knee is digging into the tank for traction.

So, I'm confused. Please explain.

there is nothing wrong with your riding position. i complement you on the lean angle and seat position.  btw i have raced off and on for almost 30 years

your left arm should be doing what your right arm is. Ughh its hard to explain/teach without having you in front of me but considering FRANKIEG said you are correct should show you that you are completely wrong.

this is the only left hand picture I could find on the net. See how you are eye level with your gauges and your right arm is almost completely flexed out. Im just trying to say that you are hanging wayyyyyy too far off the bike for the turn that you are in. Hell you could have done this turn 1 trillion times but there is no way you could flick that bike back over to the other side in the event that there was a right hander coming up at the speed you are going without having to push yourself up and over off the bike. I'm just trying to help you out because that doesnt look like a race track my friend.

I have done the same lean angle on a canyon and had a tigh S comming up and flicking it back over was not an issue nor was my speed 67mph. latigo canyon has some realy tight turn and my speed was steady and my leans did justice.maybe the guy is tall or maybe he is short. I see different lean techniques with different size people. no right or wrong way but what ever works for him. and dude you have a big ass hardon for frank just blow him already and get on with it.

I think he is short also because of were his face is.

PS: me and FrankieG are cool just like you and your rat tail and back in the 80's when they were cool.

You've got to remember. The GS500 gas tank is pretty low. I have clip-ons below the tripple and on stock rearset. I am 5'8 and have an R6 as a race bike. Now for my rebuttal.

I don't know if you follow Keith Code at all but he will tell you to keep your chest close to the tank. I do this same thing on my R6 but I am not eye level to the gauge because the gas tank is taller. If you look at the bikes in your example, the tanks on those bikes are taller and wider than the GS. I guess since the GS500's gas tank is pretty low, it looks like I'm eye level with my gauge.

I also always ride with my outside elbow resting on my tank. Again, since the gas tank is so low and my clip-ons are even lower(below tripple) It looks like my arms are extended but they are relaxed.

Hanging off too much. If you ride a GS500 with stock rearset, you should know that it's not so hard to drag pegs. I've dragged my pegs several times and let me tell you, It's not a good feeling. I'm hanging off but I'm not hanging off too far, just good enough to keep the bike upright.

I have no problems with my left right transitions. In  fact, I use more lean angle and hang off just about the same on my R6 on the chicanes on the racetrack. You just have to get the transitions down. I've taken Jason Pridmore's STAR school and they teach you to swivel around the tank to transition from one side to the other. I like using Keith Codes technique of using my inside knee to dig into the inside tank and pushing yourself on the other side.

The first picture on your example looks good but you've got to remember something. The size of the tank and where the clip-ons are. I'm basically doing the same thing as him but on a different bike but he's going much faster. He's kissing the mirror, left arm pointing down, right arm resting the tank, left leg relaxed, etc.

I would suggest the second rider to kiss his mirror that way his right elbow is more relaxed and is pointing to the ground.

The last guy, shaZam!, I think he needs to work on his body positioning. LOL

I'M NOT SAYING THOSE 2 RIDERS ARE DOING IT WRONG, I'M JUST SAYING THAT THAT'S WHAT I WOULD DO. IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU'RE COMFORTABLE WITH.

Notice my outside arm is not extended on the R6(taller gas tank) and my outside leg digging into the tank.

On all the four pictures I've posted. I do the basics. Outside arm is relaxed with the elbow on the tank, inside arm pointing down, chest on the tank, hang off so you don't drag hard parts. You can also use your lower body to turn by weighting the inside peg and digging on the outside tank. I'm not saying what I'm doing is right but It's what I'm comfortable with.

Thanks Frankie. I have a few questions though. Which club did you race with, what class did you race and was the GS competitive in that class. I ask because I want to race my GS one day and was thinking of doing it with WERA. Thx.
