Front Rotor Wear

I've noticed that my rotor is less worn around the outer perimeter.  Is this just where the brake pads don't touch it?

Yep that sure is the case...
I can't tell you if it's meant to happen that way or not however I can tell you that it's normal [i.e. every bike I've ever owned with a disc front has done it] and I have never ever had a problem with the front anchors.
Like I said I don't know why they leave a space at the outside of the rotor where the pads don't touch however it certainly makes sense to have it set up this way than to have the pads protrude pase the edge of the rotor.
I actually took my bike to the disc machining shop about a month ago for a quote on getting the rotor resurfaced -- the rotor guy inspected my disc for errors [i.e. buckle] and did not say anything about the 'less worn' area at the edge of the rotor which is very pronounced after 35,000 kms

I took my pads and rotor to a shop and they told me that the rotor was warped.

Belk - Did you notice any biting or grabbing when braking?

I'm taking no chances and replacing the rotor and getting new pads.

Hey Adam... sorry for the delay in responding... computer trouble.
My disk was slightly buckled/warped whatever you want to call it.  Probably from me testing out my forks one day after rebuilding them and grabbing big handfuls of front brake at low speeds.

The buckle in my rotor was very slight and I only noticed a [repetative] grabbing sensation when braking at very low speeds i.e. when nearly at a complete stop.
