Ok i'm having issues at the moment!

I recently had my carb out to find the float valve on the RHS carb jammed, i've since free'd it and ran the bike this morning, however the bike now wont start.

I've charged the battery and checked the plugs, the air filter is clean but it doesnt appear as if much fuel is getting to either cyclinder.

So this brings me to believe my float height could be wrong as it is very much different from my other set of carbs for the gs, although i dont actually know how to check the height.

This is what my manual says: "To check the float height, invert carburetor body, with the float arm kept free, measure the height while float arm is just in contact with needle valve (14.6 +/- 1mm)

I don't understand that instruction at all, can anyone tell me this, when the float is at the correct height of 14.6mm what is the gap between the little metal tab of which determines the float height and the small plastic bar above it when the float is the same way up as in this picture:

I know this sounds complicated but im having one hell of a time!

You cant tell float height with the float sitting on a table. Or a picture of a float sitting on a table. Its to be done with a ruler/eyeball and template or U tube or similar.
And no 14.6 mm is not metal tang to plastic. I have floats that dont have the metal tang at all or plastic bar for that matter. Its the top side of float to carb body where the bowl mates to as the valve closes. Forget it and do U tube, or do template method like I do. I have a metal bracket of sorts that screws into the body and goes over the float. Sit it so the mating face is flat, hook up the fuel hose to the inlet, screw the template in and blow. You should not be able ot get air flow. Crack open that screw and air flows through. Also tests for leaks this way. However I do a dozen of these a month, may not be worth it making and caliberating a template for every one. I madethe template after never figuring out how to measure 14.6. I got a set of floats perfectly set, then I U tubed it, then I templated it. That was in 98. It has never left my possession since just like the Vulcan/eli Cam chain tensioner tool and several others.
Or, send it to me and you'll get back a perfectly set carb. rejet $45 (parts and labor) just looking over stuff $22, just floats - Free. Return shipping not included.
Cool.

hey buddha thanks for that although im in the UK so it would be awkward to ship part across the world for such a silly little job.

I think the best idea is once the bike gets running to get it to a garage and have the carb set up properly.

I've reassembled the carb for now and im going to see if my estimated float height will be ok for the bike but i dont really know what my problem is at the moment so im sort of just cutting out any possibilities!

Since you've already reassembled the carbs, try this as a float height check:

i just went through all of this fun goodness with mine keep trying diff things and rule out one thing at a time also if you need any advice on what worked for me just let me know...
and to check your float height go to http://www.bbburma.net/FloatHeight.htm its the most simple way to check the level to see if its correct also make sure the bike is on prime when checking and yeah let me know how you make out with it...
