Oops...I might have broken the petcock

I spent months trying to decide which I bike I should get for my first bike.  Spent lots of time on this site and the Ninja250 site.  Finally, some at my company posted a 1990 GS500E for sale with 14800 miles for $850.  I jumped on the deal (hope this was a good deal) and three weeks ago this bike became all mine.  The bike was in decent for shape for its age (some surface rust on lower parts of the frame).  Only thing I really have to do is replace fork seals so it will pass inspection.  There are lots of things I want to do.

Well anyway...I was taking the tank off tonight to replace a siezed choke cable.  When I was taking the hoses off the petcock one of the hose barbs came off with the hose.  Doh! :x   Stupid hardened hoses (probably originals).  And yes I removed the clamps first.

I shoved the hose barb back in as hard as I could.  Has this happened to anyone else?  Before I put the tank back on and turn the valve to "on" should I be concerned about a fuel leak?

It happened to me too. I just put it back, checked a few times that there was no leak, and then pretended like it never happened. Just make sure it doesn't leak, then you should be ok.

Wow ... sounds like a new set of hoses is in order.

Yep, me too, on several different bikes. Just put it back in, as long as it doesn't leak. But, if you think you'll be needing to remove that hose often, you may want to replace that hose and the spigot. And then the other hoses as well, because they'll start doin' the same thing (pullin' your bike apart piece by piece).
