Acting like there is a rev limiter at 6500 rpm's.......fuel starvation issue?

I changed the plugs Friday night.  Rode for about 30 miles Saturday morning with no problems.  Saturday afternoon I removed the air filter and rinsed it out with diesel fuel then sprayed it out with water.  I let it dry and put it back in.  It fired right up and I rolled it into the driveway to wash and clean it up.  Later in the day I cranked it and drove back into the garage.

This morning I got on the bike to head to work and as soon as I got on the highway and hit 65000 rpm's in first it started to stutter.  I shifted to second and it did the same thing.  Does this sound like fuel starvation?  I could have kinked the fuel line when I put the tank on.  Do you think I messed up the air filter?

Sounds like not enough air flow. I've never heard of anyone washing an air filter with diesel & water before, but I don't think that's a good idea. Typically gasoline is used, because it's a good solvent and it evaporates quickly. Diesel is an oil that's going to persist on your filter forever. You might be able to get it all out with detergent, but I'd suggest ordering a new one.

Yea on the nose Eric - but try this.
Wash it in gas and dry it well, and smell it ... if you smell diesel, wash with gas again.
The stock paper filter can be washed in gas, but if you see holes in it, get a new one.
Cool.

Thanks guys!  I checked the filter out Saturday it was in great shape just a little dirty.  I have Simple Green, which is a good degreaser, and the cleaning kit for a K & N air filter.  I thought about cleaning it with one of those.  I just wasn't sure how many times it could be washed before it fell apart.  Would just using gas be better than a degreasing/deoiling agent?

At about double the price is the K & N drop in filter worth it over stock?  The resources on this site are awesome.  I appreciate the helpful advice from everyone.

I took the tank off to check the filter and noticed the rubber hose that hooks to the bottom of the tank was loose.  Best I can tell it was one of the vacuum lines.  I hooked it back up and that seemed to solve the problem.
