Well, another gun to the roster, I'm getting an old 1959 russian SKS with 970 rounds, which is a C&R gun so I don't have my stupid 10 day waiting period in california.  The other that I have to wait for is a new springfield XD-9sc with the heinie night sights.  Anyone have any real use with the night sights under their belt.  I didn't know if it was worth it or not, but I'm gonna go for it.  Anyone with much experience on springfield pipe in.  Should be a fun little sub compact to plink with at the range and as a carry gun.  The others on the roster were the Kahr pm9, bersa thunder .380, and if I could afford it the springfield EMP.  But the emp is twice the cost of the xd so there ya go.  I'll post pics when I get it toward the end of the month.

HAHA  Waiting period!!!!  That sucks.  In GA you just go in and wait 10 minutes for the NCIC to come back.

NICS in oklahoma on my last pistola...15 seconds :flipoff:

On the subject of night sights yes I loved the 3 dot wilsons I had on my 1991A1 that I turned into a custom carry piece.

Which Heine's are on the xd the 3dot or straight 8 2dots? I'm having a hard time with the straight 8's on my pt1911 It'll put 5 shots in clover leaf at 15yards when I work at it but I keep hitting 2 1/2" high. At 10 yards it's a consistent 1.5" high and I think its me not liking the sight. I'm sending the tritium straight 8's i ordered back, not even going to mount them and will be getting the 3 dots. I can't get used to the whole stacking the balls to create a figure 8 sight concept. focus on the front only and need the vertical reference provided by the standard sight system to keep from hitting high.

FYI this friggn taurus rocks so far I can't believe I shot clover leafs at 15yards through the wide aperature combat sights. 250rounds through it and no bobbles.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, blah blah blah.  Thats why they call it the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia.  First thing to go on the bikes is the retarded CA emissions crap and cap everything off.  I've gotta wait and unfortunately can't do anything about it.  Only way around it is to buy a gun dated pre 1959 right now, which Im doing on sunday.  Gonna get an antique gun cabinet, and a new 1959 russian sniper grade SKS in gorgeous condition.

I don't guess I really ever "carry" a piece except in the woods or swamp but I always have one nearby in the boat, car, and I HAVE put one in a backpack on a motorcycle. There's nothing like a fine rich leather well built quality holster but in the woods I usually have an "Uncle Mike's" that I don't really give a damn about. There is nothing more gut wrenching than paying $60-$150 bucks for a nice holster and having limbs and briars give it some "character marks". Heartbreaking.

I've shot an XD40 subcompact, an although the slide seems to "blocky" to me, it shot damn fine.  Seemed to be more accurate then my G19 Glock, which has a longer barrel.

I like the trijicon night sights on my Glock, but If I ever replace them, I will probably try the Mepros or the TruGlo's

bombadillo, I have these, and love them.  One is now customised, with aftermarket grips and polished slide, slide release, etc.., but no pics yet.  VERY ACCURATE, and bullet travels about 1600fps!

I love my C&R.  These were $119/ea + shipping to my door!  Admittedly, I rarely carry them.  They are stainless steel and very heavy.  In case you are wondering, these are CZ52's.
I love it when a plan comes together.

Stay in Canada if you don't like the second ammendment please.

I doubt you've ever taken a gun off anyone who was carrying legally.

Sorry Frankie but I will always disagree with you on this subject.

"taking a gun" from a baddie is not as easy as you see in the movies.  And although you are "having done all 3 of the ways mentioned", this cannot work every single time.

If someone is attacking you from a longer distance, will just curl up on the ground until they come into your circle of badassedness?

I have guns for the tradgedy's that you DONT think about, and the people and crimes that people don't like to talk about.

If someone comes through my door in the middle of the night, they have already made the decision to pay for their actions.  I am not about to duke it out with that piece of scum to get his gun (assuming he even has one, some criminals use knives), and then attempt to use an unfamiliar, unknown weapon against them.

I will take MY training, experience and tools and use them in the most effective way I know how to stop that person from doing harm to me or my family.

If that means he leaves when I issue commands and let them know that the police were called, then so be it.  IF they continue their attack, they will be met with force.  I will not try to shoot them in the leg, or the pelvis.  Two to the chest momentarily followed by one to the head if he keeps moving.

I am not about to jeopardize the safety of myself or my family, because I think I can outsmart the badguys and take their weapons.

That's crazy.

+1 laserred.  That's why my rifle sleeps just inside the closet with one in the chamber, my 9 sleeps on my nightstand with one in the chamber and hopefully a little big brother H&K .45 sub compact will be joining it very soon.

(Offer still stands, if someone can get their hands on an actual non-SAMMI compliant SOCOM issue Mk23 I'll give you my Duc for it)

yamahonkawazuki

frankie i doubt the baddies will run off if you say, " i called the cops", granted if faced with this situation again, i will call the leos, in the meantime, im not gonna say " now mr/mrs bad guy/girl, can you wait until the cops get here?", also i do NOT bluff with my weapons, if they are pulled someone will get shot ( and it wont be me) :thumb:

Frankie,

You have to remember that most of these guys never had to carry one during the daily action of their job.  They never had to clean and oil it twice a day, ensure it was dry in a frog drowning downpour, account for every round though it, account for the piece itself, and pay holy hell if it was lost.  Then of course, there's the duty that comes with the job.

Several members of my family wore the badge or the green suit for well over a decade each.  None of them miss it.  "That's for the kids." they say.

I thought about carrying at one time.  Frankly, I avoid places where I think there's the slightest chance of something happening.  I just don't need the bullshit or the responsibility, I have enough of both to last a lifetime already.  Regardless, my chances of being killed by a soccer mom in her SUV significantly outweight my chances of being involved in an armed conflict at the grocery store.    :)

Mute point.  People aren't allowed to carry firearms in Canada.

I see what most of you are saying.  Protection in the event the unspeakable happens.  Fair enough.  But some of you talk as if it will be easy when the time comes to make that decision.  Gotta say, if you truly are in a life or death situation, its nothing like practicing at the shooting range or lining up that deer.  You're adrenaline is pumping and you're not thinking anymore.  I'm not trying to put anyone down here, but its a fact proven by numerous studies of police, military, fire, anyone who is encountered with high stress situations.

And I'm with Frankie, don't believe in carry firearms...even if it were allowed.
