so...

i've drilled out my pipe and rejetted to 40/150

i can tell already it's way to rich but i've been putting up with it because it does (well did) run well enough to get to work (and im still wrenching on my cage)

long and short:

bike is a 92' with 22k on it...

left side plug is flat black with soot BUT the little elecrodes are light grey almost white.
the RIGHT plugs is dark brown almost black

and more recently.... it wokr start the bike cracks over no problem... but it's not actually firing l;ike it should....

sometimes it fires right up, sometimes i crack it for a bit and give it some gas.. then it starts....

sometimes i can crack it till the batt is dead and still nothing..

so any idea's?

im at about 100' above sea lv. in warm climate.

im thinking about dropping to a 37.5  145 combo see if that helps.... but i need to finish my car first....

I would say order a K&N lunchbox and it would balance out the jetting. As a bonus it will sound BA and make under the tank/seat a lot less cluttered.

i wont use a K&N as im a year round rider and that looks like it would let too much water in...

and budda: you where the one would told me to usea  150 in the first place =-P

and as far as how much i've drilled it out...

it's been whored pretty good.

it's something like 8x 3/4" holes. might as well be a straight pipe.

would a bad coil cuse this?

imt hinkgina bad/no spark would make it run like crap sometimes and that could also make the plugs differant colors

The Buddha

Did you say you had a lunch box ??? Can I see that post please ?

Anyway, K&N in airbox is 127.5. Paper or uni in airbox=125.

Water wont make a diff, the dirt and dust will do most of the damage.

Fine man, I am not going looking for the post where I said it, if you want to its fine.

Here is what you should run - You have a UNI or paper in the air box ? then run 125.

If its K&N in lunch box - run 127.5.

Run 150's only if K&N clamp on filter.

And set the floats to the top of the bowl and no more.
Cool.

Running rich, especially after running rich for a while, can make starting more difficult due to the soot.  Sure a weak coil can create havoc; but I would look to see if the battery is taking a sufficient charge.  The battery may be producing enough current to crank the engine, but if voltage is low, the spark will be weak even with a good coil.  Sometimes when the voltage is low like that, you notice the engine tends to start the instant you let off of the starter button.

Also, when you say you gave it more gas and it started; if you mean you twisted the throttle more, you actually gave it more air and thus a leaner mix.

I'll sell you a uni I've got laying around if ya want it.
GS500E with a bunch of cool stuff!

already got the uni foam filter (yes i remembered to oil it  :flipoff: )

and it's a combo of all the above... my plugs are dark with soot.

my coil i suspect is weak and my batt isn't very new... maybe 2 year old.

new plugs do help... but thats not a fix.

im going to swap coild from one side to the other and see if that makes my crazy burns look differant then im going to rejet down....

like i said thinking 145 but i might drop to 140 and see where that drops me

The Buddha

Uni pod filters ... in place of air box - run 145's, though I have not tested it with that combo.
Uni in air box 125.
