Im surprised to see no discussions about the huge amount of motorcyclists not wearing helmets  in PA  as of the fourth.. I went for a short ride today to see how it is.. and i dont like it. Its a bit annoying with bugs and i felt very intimidated.. and mortal. NOT for me.. but i had to try it. Any one else have any experiences?

I hear my neighbor, Sal's, voice every time I see someone w/out.

"If I ever see you without a helmet, I'll kick your ass and take your bike"

Sal's just a few months out of his second surgery on his noggin. He popped the back of a car with his helmet hanging from his seat. Sal will never, ever be the same guy he was before he hit his head on the car. But I'm still certain that he'd kick my ass and take my bike.

Rule Two: Wear a helmet (and listen to Sal)
No time to wash the bike

Yeah, it blows my mind.  I can't believe that Rendell would even CONSIDER repealing the helmet law.  Personally, I've spent way too much time and money fillin' my brain up to spill it out onto the highway.  I would never ride without my helmet.

I wonder if the first few imploded heads will change public opinion on this subject?  Probably not.  I guess it's a personal choice, so long as I'm not paying the medical bills.

I can't even see how people ride without helmets, and those that do don't even wear goggles or anything.  I can't see because of the wind without the helmet and I sure as hell don't feel any bit close to safe.

Rendell repealed the helmet law because it was very easy and visible to do. Therefore people "see" government in action.  Also, while they are debating the merits of riding with or without helmets he is further screwing educators in this state out of more and more money.  We just had or first faculty meeting of the semester and it was all about increasing our percent effort workload for no extra pay due to budget cuts at the state level.   :x

sorry for the rant.
As for the helmet thing. Aside from turning my bike around to put it in my garage I've always got a helmet on.. and jacket.. and gloves.. boots... jeans (soon to be padded JR pants)... cup... etc..

Maybe Ed Rendell is like former gov. bob casey who was in desperate need of a a live and heart transplant and low and behold two days later an inmate dies who is a perfect type match.  Maybe he figures he'll stock up on nice young organs so when his time comes he can have his pick.

They only good thing to come out of this is the potential for me to do my doctoral dissertation on motorcyle related head traumas form not wearing helmets...

i just finished watching Trama: Life in the ER on the Learning Channel.  this show was from oklahoma city and they had to amputate both hands and arms about at the elbow and one foot at the shin area  from a motorcycle accident.  the guy looked like he put his hands and foot in a blender.  all they knew and all he could remember was loosing control and going down.

There's a conspiracy behind it 8)  Stupid people will not wear a helmet anymore and will die much sooner in an accident. It's an attempt to remove stupid people from the gene pool

I can't imagine that riding without a helmet would be more comfortable than with one. I've been on vacation to France with the GS and I traveled 1600 miles mostly over the autobahn and the Belgian/French highways. You don't want to know how many flies hit my helmet during riding. I had to clean it several times because I couldn't see well anymore.

On the autobahn I've had bees hitting my chest when I traveled at 100 mph. You could feel it through the motorcycle jacket I was wearing. Now imagine riding at 100 mph and a bee hits your head! You'll have a wound or a bruise at that spot for sure.

i think anybody who rides a motorcycle without a helmet is just plain dumb. obviosly it is the stupid ones who do that.

I had a grass hopper jump up in to my visor. The thing was huge. A good three inches long and I was going about 70 mph. The thing hit so hard that it threw my head back a little and it was so loud I thought the visor had broken but fortunately it was OK.

No helmet law here in Kansas but if you don't have a big honking cruiser windshield it's just about suicidal to no have one with good coverage.

Helmet saved my brain more than once back in my dirt bike days as well.
Laws don't stop criminals. People do.

The Antibody

I yell at every rider without a helmet. It's retarded in my opinion. Mostly cruiser folks too.

Reminds me when California didn't have a helmet law and one day I decided to go out and blow dry my hair after I took a shower. Of course, I didn't plan on going head on with a Plymouth (the second time) as she turned left in front of me to get to a driveway of a parking lot...I wear a helmet nearly all the time now...
