Squeaky Rear Brake...?

Hey, my brand new GS500F's rear brake has been squeaking since the day I brought it home.  After 900+ miles, it's still doing it.  Any suggestions on how to make this go away?

check your wheel alignment, check your pads for rocks/crap/grease.

the gs is notorious for an occasionally squeaky rear disc.

there are threads here about how other folks solved it, i usually wait a day or so for whatever road grime/crap to wear off and it goes away.

(I keep my wheels aligned though)

Mine squeeks only when I apply the bike brake. I was told by my dad it's because I don't use my back brake that much and so rust and other stuff builds up and so when you break it rubs that stuff off and causes a squeek.

When was the last time you washed your bike?  I would give it a good wash and spray down the caliper and disk really good.  Brake dust can collect and make your brakes squeek.  Works for me.

I replaced the pad and havent had a squeak since.  Only took about 10 minutes.

Mine squeals sometimes. Has since new. It's the piston in the caliper not making perfectly flush contact with the back of the brake pad, I believe. My usual fix is to take the pads out, carefully make sure the leading edge of the pad surface is chamfered. The a can of anti-squeal goop from the local auto-parts store -- apply a thin layer to the BACK of the brake pad (where the piston pushes). Follow directions for application. Re-insert brake pads into caliper. No more squeal (for a couple thousand clicks anyway... eventually you have to scrape off the dried goop from the back of the pads and reappy).

Changing pads can help too -- metalic pads are notorious for squealing and there's no amount of anti-squeal goop that can silence some pads. I don't know what the OEM pads are made with nowadays... are they metallic?

5thAve is correct, brake squealing is caused from the BACK of the pad vibrating against the piston. I use a thin layer of this thick black grease like Goop and the squeal hasn't come back in months

Mine squeaked for a year and a half after I bought it new. Finally quit though. Pads are still in good shape. I dont use my back brake much, so maybe that's why it took awhile. Oh, by the way, mine is an '05

If its brand new take it back to the dealer and shout "Warranty" at them.

Anywhere you have metal-to-metal contact you'll create a vibration when the brake is applied.  Vibration=brake squeal.  You need to apply some anti-squeal paste to the back of the pads where they make contact with the caliper in order to dampen the vibrations.  Also, I think the rear pads take shims.  Don't recall off the top of my head though.

Alas, I agree with everyone on this thread! 
Either a)do the antisqueel paste job yourself
or b)get someone else to do it.
