I'm want bar end mirrors for my 89, but I'm not sure what brands will work. I'm pretty sure there is threading on the inside of the end of my handle bars, so I'd think that would pose a problem. I know theres quite a few of yall on here that know the specifics of 89 clip ons and what bar end mirrors will work, so I could really use your help. Thank!

I have a $12 MT Bike mirror on my 89's   :icon_mrgreen:

I can tell you that if you have the factory 89 bar parts there are threads in the end

Will I have to modify them to make bar end mirrors fit? Do they make adapters to accomodate the threading inside the clip on bars?

They make some that go on the outside of the bars. I just dont know where you get them. You can go to your local Mt. Bike shop and see what they have to get some ideas.

there's a thread on the board about how someone used a longer bolt to make cheap bar end mirrors work for his bars with the threads in them.  do a search and see what you can find.

I just bought those on ebay, should be coming in today. I have 89-clip ons but they aren't threaded bars b/c the guy i brought them from said he upgraded the tubes to vortex ones. Anyway on the item page it says those mirrors can be used on threaded bars. Also they fold up which is nice like CRG mirrors.. just not as pricey.

Dude.. did you not read my post?? That's the same mirrors in the link i posted.. Anyway i had them laying around for a week and finally put them on last night. They look great. Visibility is much much much better. No more arms/shoulders in the mirrors. It says it fits 7/8 bars. I checked the old 1 piece bars i had and they would fit in there (which are 7/8) but they had the welded threads in it. I was curious so i checked if the bolt would thread in it. It wont, the bolt is to thick. Now i had two option to mount these on my clip ons. Clamp them directly to the bars which u can do. I cant since the bars are not long enough. Vortex is weird and the ID of their handlebars are not 7/8. Fun.. i had to use a dremmel to sand the thickness of the bar end wedges so they would fit in the tubes. Now there in and look pretty. Ill post pics sometime soon.. maybe. I would ask the seller if they have maybe a smaller bolt to thread in the bars, otherwise send Buddha $$$ and he will give you some longer bars for ur clip ons.

Sorry, I DID read the post, I think I just copied the link while surfing on ebay and pasted it up here without looking at your link again.

So since my clip ons are the stock 89's, these mirrors will screw inside of them with no problems?

wildbill

No. At least my one piece bars with the welded threads would not work.. the bolt that comes with the mirrors is too thick to screw into the bars. Im assuming they used the same bolt size for 89s to so you would need a bolt that would fit and it would have to be tapered to fit the mirror.

Damn...okay, well would anyone happen to know the pitch and all that for the type of bolt that would thread into them? :dunno_white:

wildbill

u could always cut the weld out or the bar a lil shorter if its not a problem for u.. than u can use the wedge system it comes with.
