White smoke? Constant after washer bump and carb sync.

Just tuned carbs now getting white smoke. I just started it tonight to come home from work (10pm 52-55 degrees F outside) and rode it home. It was puffing white smoke when I first started and warmed it up. When I got home I shut it off and let it sit for about 30 minutes.

When I went outside again I started it and it started puffing white smoke again. So, I fiddled with the air-fuel mix to ensure I wasn't running rich.. I went from 2 and 3/4 turns out to about 4 and it got a little better, but then my idle didn't drop to 1000 as quick as normal. So, I had to leave it at about 3 and 1/2 turns out on each carb.

I let it idle for about 5-10 minutes afterwards lightly revving up to about 3k rpm and she kept puffing white smoke. I did this in my garage with the door open and the air never got hazy or full of smoke so I know it's not too bad... so I can't tell if it's just the temperature outside or if it's the carbs out of whack running rich.

It doesn't smell like fuel and the exhaust smells burnt like it should... Maybe I'm just a little paranoid... lol.

I'm just worried that 3 and 1/2 turns out is a bit much for just 1 washer on the needles.  :dunno_white:

I will say this though... the washer did WONDERS for my power dip at 4k rpm... but now it feels as if there's no 'power-band'.

Before the washer mod the bike would be very dull up to about 4.5k rpm and once it got up to 5k it would rip open. Now everything is smooth all the way up to red-line.

I kinda miss the 'surprise' of the 5k power push, but it seems to behave much better in town. No change on the highway.

This was longer than I thought...  :icon_lol:

Any hints on the white smoke? Is 3.5 turns out too much?

3.5 is fine, white smoke is usually too rich, but I suspect float level ... smelling like gas is good, just smelling like exhaust may be oil burning at the rings or valves.
Cool.

Pulling the mixture screw out makes it richer, so you further enriched the mix.  Maybe try going to 2.5.  Then again, if Buddha says it isn't broke...

Thanks guys... it warmed up to about 65 today and it only puffed a little during warm up.

The thing is that now during warm up the idle hovers around and won't stay put with the choke on. Choke Off, it drops to about 1000 until I go about 5-10 miles and then it'll idle at 1100-1200 where it's supposed to.

Sound normal?
