Has anyone tried this? (R6 rear fender)

I've been looking for mods/chops to do to the bike ever since I got her. So far I've chopped the rear fender down to below the license plate, however I don't really like the big, bulky plastic bit under the tail light/grab bar. SO, Instead of doing a fender-eliminator, I want to remove that bulky bit and replace the whole rear mud-guard with that of the Yamaha R6 (2007-08).



Since the fender has the plate holder/light on it I could flip the tail light up-side-down to flow the tail a little better. I've found these fenders kicking around for lower than 40 bucks... so it may be a future mod.

Any input?

I don't think it looks any better personally. I'd try and do a fender eliminator of some type.

Usually people want to get rid of the fender.  But if I had to have a fender and I had those two choices, the R6 one doesn't look half bad.

If I were to keep one of those THINGS on my bike, It'd be stock. That seems like more work going from bad to worse, but thats just my opinion.

R6 fender looks rediculous, its built for the r6 which has a high rear tail section thus the fender comes at the perfect height when its on. On the GS its too slow and stick too far out the back.

R6 tail's can look quite good but as Chef found out, fabbing other bike parts to yours makes for hard trial and error work. Making up new brakects to get it to match the lines of your own bike.

Thanks for the input. It was just an idea. Lol. I DO like the look of the R1 tails and might go that route.. the only unfortunate thing is that mine's an E... so I'd have to chop the coweling brackets off the tank.. (eesh).

Here's the thing too... I really like (unfortunately?) the look of the stock tail section and the seat. But, I want to do something different with the tail light.. maybe an 00' R1 Clear-Integrated or something... just something different from stock.

I know the bike's.. "slow".. by street-bike comparisons, but it doesn't need to LOOK that way, lol.

The other thing I liked about that R6 fender is that you can still see the top of the tire, and everything is 'factory' clean instead of hacked and chopped. The plate would actually mount really well to the existing inner-fender with very little modification.

Oh well, we'll see what I do when I do it... lol, for now I'm saving up for V&H exhaust, jet kit, and maybe a windshield of sorts. Maybe some bar ends... and mirrors... and clip ons... *sigh*

I am wanting to do something similar, but I don't like the r1/r6 look either.  What does a fender eliminator for a gs involve?  I have seen systems on ebay for the gsxr, but none for a gs.  Where can I get a material list and basic instructions for a fender eliminator?

I think the only fender eliminators are made over in France for the GS500. Which sucks. The other thing is... I don't really like the looks/practicality of a fender eliminator because you have to lose your rack bars and your side lock for the seat... what's with that? No glove box and no access to tool kits? No fun! Lol.

I was thinking of trying to make one out of fiberglass, if I went down that road that is.

If you got a nice size piece of styrofoam and got carving you could come up with a nice shape for the underside of the fender... then get pasting with the fiberglass and resen and boom... you'd have a decent little pan. You'd have to then remove the luggage bars (lose the side lock or re-position elsewhere) and fab up some zeus fastener mounts you'd have a pretty decent little tray under there. Then get a hugger.

Seemes like too much work... i'd rather just chop the fender and live with it. Lol.

yeah, sounds like alot of work with little pay off.  I will stay put, I guess, until another product is available in the us
