Dies as soon as I close the choke

Does anyone have any idea why my bike would die as soon as I close the choke?  I can't get it to even start unless the choke is fully open.  I let it run that way until it gets up to maybe 3k - 4k but as soon as I close the choke it dies.  If I try to start it without opening the choke it just won't start at all.

I am very sad because I have not been able to ride YET this season.  I had a battery issue and replaced that, now this.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Laura

Yes, I filled it with fresh gas and seafoam.

The battery is fully charged, the lights work and it tries to start right away.  I don't know how water would have gotten into the fuel.

I'm SO not mechanical, though I am really trying to learn and to work on my own bike.  I don't know anything about checking for clogged jets, I guess I will have to research that today.  I haven't messed with the idle at all, last year it was perfect.

I really appreciate the suggestions this gives me some places to start.

Laura - How you been ?
You have clogged pilot jet. Choke bypasses the circuit and rarely ever gets clogged, but once you take it off, the pilot and air screw take over, and if they are clogged its lights out.

Thanks Buddha, I am sad now, but if I can finally ride my bike I will be happy.

I will research the clogged pilot jet.  Hopefully it is not too over my head mechanically and I can fix it and get riding again.

Thanks for all the advice.  I am going to clean the carbs this weekend.   First time to do a really big project on my bike.  Hopefully I don't screw it up   :o

Why you little ...

Anyway, I suggest sending to me if the user has previously attempted some bs and screwed it up royally, or I get the idea that they are likely to do so.

okay I know I'm comming out of no where.  However, I've been searching the internet and forums trying to get some information on a friends 06 GS500F.  It sounds like you were havin exactly the same problem she is.  I was wondering if you ever got it fixed and if so was it the clogged jet.  Also, did you do it yourself and is there any horror stories to go along with it.  I can turn a wrench but I like to do my research first when I'm diving into something new.

Just so I'm not being to rude.  My name is Allen, AKA BadDawg.  I'm actually a Honda VTX guy. So Suzuki scoots is a little out of the norm.
Anyhow, if you have any updates on this thread I'd really appriciate it.

Thanks,

Al
