Mine occassionally pops on down shift but usually only on over revving down shifts.
By "popping" are you referring to the engine backfiring or just an added note from the exhaust when revs drop. (like on a V8 with an aftermarket exhaust)

Just FYI

i know, worthless post but somewhat interesting...

20 - 65 - 145...
I really need to take a long highway trip and see what it gets, city driving of course isn't the best for mpg.
It smells super rich at idle so I may go back down to 17.5 pilots and while I'm in there put a washer in or two.
Also, the pipe is not on the bike yet. TAKING FOREVER...

145 with stock pipe ... You have K&N clamp on ? ok if you do, I'd still get a pipe before putting stock pilots back.
I also will run 65's and no washers, but you put washers in go back to 60's.
Cool.

pipe is on
sounds really awesome from idle to 3,000 rpm, but after that i can't hear it because of the K&N.
i'm somewhat disapointed with how it turned out as the flange is somewhat not the right shape (which i could just grind out later) and we had to heat up and bend the exhaust pipe out and that made a wrikle in the pipe. Oh well. other than that though, its sweet. i will eventually grind down the rust and crap and paint the exhaust system black.
i would recommend just spending the extra money and get the slip on and then paint everything black. i wanted to do it my own way because i thought a slip on would look stupid without the fairing hiding it but i feel now that it would have been easier/less stressful to just get the slip on and put it on myself.
anyways,
here are some pics. i'll take more pics when its light out. and also video
