hi everyone my first post after days of searching. great site btw.  I recently inherited a 2001 GS500E from a buddy of mine who never rode it(i think 300 miles in 4 years). needless to say it didnt run to well.  i took it in and had the gas tank drained and cleaned, fuel filter, carbs cleaned and i replaced the plugs.  bike runs 10x better now but one problem that never went away was a tick/backfire in the left carb.  the carb seems to jolt to the rear when it happens. and only at idle.  i found another thread on here that said a cracked or leaking intake manifold could be the culprit, doesnt seems to be anything wrong with it.  any input or advice anyone could give would be appreciated. thank you

*** also had carbs synched

Could be one carb running lean.  Make sure the mixture screws are adjusted 2.5-3 turns out.  Also, make sure the rubber sections that link the airbox to the carb, and the carb to the engine are without any cracks.  Finally, you could balance the carbs.
