Came across this link by accident while searching for GenMar handlebar risers: http://www.convertibars.com

It is a convertible handlebar system which allows you to change between two types of riding positions in a couple of minutes. Now if they only made one for the GS I would buy it in a heartbeat. Their fitting chart says it will work for the SV650. Hum.... Do I see a SV650 in my future?????

... but this system can not be used with that kind of headlight (mounts!) we have on GS :(
In the other hand it can be used on faired GS`s ;)

Do a web search for Laverda bars. They are fully adjustable, and a lot cheaper. They may be what you're looking for.

Laverda Bars?
Are you talking about Tomeselli bars?

You could hunt down most ANY adjustable clubman bar - that's what you really need!!!  Quick change from sporty to not-so-sporty...

Those tommaselli's also wont work with the GS headlight mounts...Unless you push the forks into the triples so they stick up 2 inches or so. The tomasellis's are also notoriously weak...They break rather easy. The best solution IMHO is the SM type bars...I am waiting word from my welder and in 1-2 days I'll have the proto type for it. Mine are made to mimic the 89 clip on postions and eliminate the problems of the clip on design...I also beleive I should be able to make them for ~40 or less each. The only problem...due to lack of availability of better material and higher cost of labor if they weld aluminum. People with aluminum/SS welding equipment/know how seem to be up to their eyeballs in welding up food and agriculture stuff...So the handlebars are made from steel not aluminum. Lemme put pictures of them up so we all on the same page. I was hoping to get aluminum for ~1/2 the SM prices but I think 1/3 the price for steel is a close second.

Thought Alum would be more than the steel one but steel will be nice since its heavier and will absorb the vibes better.

Maybe so...but aluminum would have to be 1/4 inch wall as against 3/16 in steel - that alone was nearly 3 times the cost in per foot price. Further  it is thick...and would need a deep weld or a trench shaved at each edge before welding...effectively would have doubled the labor time and the welders that do aluminium are pricier than the steel guys...I had to fire 2 welders before I got to this point...One of them would have charged me $150+ a set for labor and materials...better off getting SM's. I thought we may get them powder coated for rather cheap in some nice color (not my favorite black) like silver or gold if we have some volume say 100 at one time. Else you paint them to your favorite color. IMHO $130 for SM's is a rip off, aluminum ones should be ~60-70 but no one seems to agree with me, steel should be 30-35 and I finally managed to get close to that. Volume is the key. If I have 100 to make I might be able to get closer to 35. Materials and wastage are reduced and I can get better deals from the welders. BTW I also have a machinist looking at fork braces and the right side cover...lets see where that ends up. Again numbers are the key. Need a 100+ to make some decent deals. I'll try to get prices for 1, 10 and 100. Lets see where that leaves us. I dont want to make a garage full and try to sell them like the SM guys...That's too time consuming for someone who isn't fabricating for a living.

I musta misred, I thought the Aluminum ones were cheaper than the steel but I had it backasswards! I'd rather have something thick and heavy to reduce the vibes. Might hold out on bars now to see how yours go. I saw the flanders clubman ones and they are cheaper than the SM but dunno how good they are and how well they fit. I want something that stretches me out farther over the tank. To get down out of the wind better I have to bend my arms so much that I can put my elbows on my knees and ride like that. I want some that stretches my arms out farther in front of me that the drag bars do.

Clubmans have a 5 inch drop...in their actual useage...on a GS that will clobber the tank on steering lock or smash your thumb between the frame and bar... Not totally sure on this part but the 5 inch drop is too low. It was meant for a narrower bike like those that had single spine frames like a kawi KZ 440 or some like that. Mirrors dont work, bars are very very low and generally make everything harder on the GS. Ig you flip them about so now there is a 5 inch rise...its too high and you are back in the wind doing the sit up and beg thing. The 89 bars put your fists  right about level wiht the top tripleand they put them at a more natural angle 10-15 degrees downward and ~30 degrees with the perpendicular to the bike. Nothing feels as good as the 89's IMHO and the have a few flaws which can be eliminated easy by our re fabrication.
