are the newer '04+ R6 OEM mufflers good cheap replacements for the stock muffler?  And by good I mean are they free flowing enough that there is a good power increase?

I want something cheap and something like the one below is right in my price range.  What can I expect to drop at a muffler shop to have them fit it correctly?

yes they're free flowing, BUT the size increase is about 50% from what the GS muffler is, which also means more weight I'd figure, so in a way that negates any gain.

They're really that much bigger? Wow, well for the price it might be my only option for a while.  Do you know of anyone that has the R6 exhaust on their bike with a pic online?  I'd love to see what it looks like on a bike.

What would you suggest that's cheap and light with a decent power gain?

I found a muzzy slip-on on eBay for cheap but don't know of anyone using a Muzzy with a GS.  Anyone have any info on them?

How cheap do you need to go?  I got a yosh on ebay for 100

lopee

Do you need a muffler cause yours is bad or dont have one? or are you just looking for power and sound? I got a carbon yosh TRS off e-bay for $120. I also have my stocker that i cut off at the collector if you need it cheap...... say $20+shipping. When I put the yosh on it was $20 for the jets, $35 K&N Lunchbox, $140 Yosh, $65-80 at minakee muffler ( 1st one did a bad job so took it to another down the street) If your lookin for power SAVE UP is my best advice, you'll be pleased you waited for quality( at a decent $$price) and it is so sweet when it all comes together!
Grumble : Grumble . . . . . . .

no, my system is fine as it is, but I'm getting power hungry and want a growl instead of the stock sound.  I do like the way Yosh's look so I guess I'll save up for a bit and try to grab one of those.

as far as power gain, you might see 2 HP, 2 FT/lb torque with a free flow pipe, a rejet, K&N filter, and red lining the bike every shift.

what you want is sound ? ok, cool, go get a aftermarket pipe, rejet, filter, and GET AN IGNITION ADVANCER, then a 15t or 14t front cog.

^ with this combination, off the line will be smoother, quicker, and you'll notice a real difference. will there be more power ? no. will there be more top end ? maybe, but we're talking the difference of 100 mph and 105 mph.

the gs ain't no powerhouse, it's a TWISTIE's machine :)

good luck with your quest, post pictures when you find the combination you like aight ?

I have a stock pipe but lots of GRROOWWLL from the K&N lunchbox on mine, sometimes you can get the noise you want from the other end of the engine. So I am nice and quiet if I keep the revs down, but when I open the throttle it sounds like a much bigger bike due to induction noise. Have you tried that?

My bike has a K&N lunchbox as well as some holes drilled in the stock exhaust. It sure does make a lot of noise, especially when reved up. Sometimes I feel bad for my neighbors... At least I don't have to leave early in the morning...

tripleb

I was going to go the lunchbox/stock exhaust route but Buddha talked me out of it.  I want more get up and go so I guess I need to get the 14t or 15t and the ignition advancer, but those aren't exactly easy to find nowadays.  I'll let you know what I end up doing.
