Bike STILL running like crap - look inside...

...now it's getting worse.  It doesn't like to start, even with full choke.  I need a combination of choke and throttle to keep it running, at first.  After a little running it'll run with choke.  Still the same, though, it's either above 3K RPM or it wants to die.  Without choke, forget it.

It does, however, run OK on the highway etc.  No lag or drag.

Going thru a mental list of things to check:

Air filter
Plugs
Someone mentioned the fuel filter may be clogged??

If the fuel filter was dirty/clogged, would the bike exhibit this type of behavior?  I'm going to bring it in to the shop, but I want to give them some things to check, rather than just cutting them loose like a couple of bulls in a china shop, and charge me a bunch of un-necessary stuff.  So those are the things I think I should start with, no?  I don't have the necessary tools myself in California or else I'd attempt to do the minor stuff myself.

It just acts as it's not getting any fuel, unless either the choke is on half way, or I give it constant throttle.   It's a definite bummer.  Ideas from the guru's?

Check your vacuum lines. If one of them is messed up it will run terrible.

To me sounds like clogged pilots. Have you tried pouring some injector cleaner in the fuel tank?
Bad plugs could prolly do that too.

I doubt it's the air filter or fuel filter, it would run worse at open throttle (highway).

I like the one by Chevron, I can't remember the name right now, you can get it at walmart. I personally checked that it works on my cage, I was surprised how it got all the carbon and gunk off.

Well I got a bottle of STP Carb / FI cleaner, and put some in when I filled up.  I've done about 40 miles since then, with no difference, but if the jets are as bad as to cause the bike to run this bad, I'm sure I'll need a few tank-full's of cleaner before I'll notice a difference...  I'm going to try to check the vacuum lines .. although I only have limited tools here so I'm limited in what I can really do.   I think I'm just going to :guns: my bike and be done with it!

Well I'm about 60 miles into my 2nd tank of gas mixed with Gumout / STP / Whatever I bought at the time.  No difference.  Bike's on eBay, depending on what happens on Monday either I let the auction go to the end, or I pull it.   Hopefully I'll be able to pull it, but it all hinges on Monday ...
