ok, i have decided to rebuild my bike, after it being down for the past 10 months. I was letting a buddy of mine work on it but he didnt have alot time to work on it. He did however take to starter off and found that it was ALL FU(Ked up, and he said he had it running somewhat . I have yet to pull it apart myself, so i am not sure how bad it is. Any one have any idea of what kinda head-ache I am getting myself into? I would part it out, but my wife likes it and wants to start riding, so it will be her bike when i am done. Any help on locating cheap parts and any info would be greatly appriciated

You have never gotten past the starter this far, and you wanna get into the bottom end ... you're trying to eat steak and you haven't quite figured out how to drink out of a bottle yet ... Bottom end crap is expensive, finnicky and get this, car guys are used to working with 1000's of an inch, bike motor journals need to be done in 10,000's of an inch ...
Find a motor and swap it or part it. Either will cost a lot less and have much better results.
I have seen several motors that habe been put togther so badly ... right after they are started up, they have rod bearing knocks. You cant get a car shop to do it right, and motorcycle shops sometimes screw up ... and sometimes OK.
Cool.

yeah, a complete good motor would be ideal, but i am having problems locating one. any ideas on where i can get one.

Where are you located ... I'd sell you one out of my friends bike ... however I am not going to be able to ship it, boxing and lifting it is not my strength. Anyway, in cahrlotte NC I ahve a running motor you can test ride and take with you. $350 for it is my $$.
In a few days if it doesn't get sold, I'll rebuild that bike back and call it good.
Cool.

i live in east texas. Dam it would be sweet if i could find a way to get it.

I used to live in east texas ... sept 07 t0 march 08. But this bike was always in charlotte.
If he decides on a slightly different course of action I'll have to refit the FE and back to riding it.
