Just stick a portable in your jacket and those head phones you put in your ears under your helmet. While I have no need for music while I ride, that sounds like it should work.

Just a thought...

i remember seeing a how to a while back about rigging a cigarette lighter type adapter thingy for a gs.  now, if you followed those instructions, and made a mount to hold your player, that would work fine, but that's all i got for ya.  myself, i just carry my mp3 player in my cargo pant pocket and feed my headphones up through my jacket.

There are also helmet earpieces you can purchase that are designed to be added to a helmet.  Don't know for certain how well they work, but they are used all the time for intercom systems.

You could, if you really wanted to, mount speakers on your bike in various places (you'd have to really think about that one) and do it that way... even get a real car CD player.  I don't think it'd really be worth it in the long run, though... and it might irritate people in nearby cars. =]

I'd probably suggest the discman in the pocket route, but if you decide to try something more exotic, let me know as I've been considering different options for using ham radios, cell phones, music, etc, since I got my bike and would be curious as to what ideas you have. =]

Great news! I just saved a bundle on car insurance by switching to a motorcycle!

Dont get anything CD based for a player, it will skip a lot while on a bike and if you try to mount it on the bike the vibrations will be too much for it to read. If your looking for music get a solid memory based mp3 player, one that uses CF or SM memory cards. Or for more storage something like the Ipod. A lot of the CF/SM mp3 players have a radio built in also but reception is pretty poor on them. And get the largest base memory unit and the largest CF/SM card you can buy when you get one. I have a Diamond Rio one that has the radio and SM card interface and with the 128mb onboard and 256mb card I can put about 3hrs or so of music on there. But I dont always want to listen to the song coming up so I'll skip songs etc so 3hrs ends up to be like 2hrs of music I want to listen to at the time.

Oh and do a headset, you will never heard speakers on the GS unless your in a parade at 5mph. Its a GS not a Goldwing!

Well if your stopped listening to music then something like an Ipod would be good as there is a ton of storage space so lots of songs, you can still use it while riding and you can do speakers or FM/Tuner etc etc on it. There are a ton of accessories.

You will have to do a outlet on your bike and get some speakers that will plug in the lighter type outlet if you want others to hear it also. But you could drain your battery, it is a bike afterall and the batteries are known for thier capacity or life. Might can find some that use just batteries and bring a bunch of rechargables with you. Might could wire it up to charge them while you ride and have the charger under your seat or in a tank bag. But your getting into electrics that I dont know like amps and stuff that the chargers needs.

When Iw as in high school I had a backpack that had 2 JBL speakers built into it. I connected it to my iPod or Discman. It was the coolest thing ever. You should look into doing that. The backpack was quite pricy. I think $300CDN or so. Unfortunatley it was jacked when my Civic was broken in to. I loved that set up. I had an outlet wired into my 1000watt car stereo as well, so I could plug the iPod into the car. Great set up really...Those were the days indeed.

Here a scouple examples...not as coola s mine, but thats okay...

Definitely iPod. I use mine while riding with Sony clip on MDR-J10. The speaker faces the front of the ear so it lets sounds of traffic through providing (like me) you listen at moderate volume. If your looking for speakers for listening OFF your bike, I found these interesting because they are water resistand:
