well i just got home after spending a week with my father and the family i did not know i had.   just a quick reminder my father came home from work one day and my mother had disappeared and took my brother and i with her.   i was 3 and tim was 1.  we lived in Niagara falls NY and she took off to Maine with us.  my grandmother and her friend came to get us. why this happened i do not know but that is what went down.  so 42 years later i was reunited with my father, my 2 bothers and 2 sisters i did not know existed.  we had the Canadian thanksgiving together and all the family was there.   it was great.  my fathers side of the family is rural and does not have the education or upbringing my brother tim and I had.  oh i now have 2 brothers named tim.  the first tim is the one i grew up with and is 43.  my other brother tim is dads and my step mum Karen and he is 23.  dad and Karen have been married 41 years which tells me allot.  my mother was married 4 times which was hard on tim and i.  always having a new "step dad" or BF hanging around.  some were down right criminal and some were just drunks.  ma was trying to find a good home for me and my brother so she made some bad decisions over the years.  so i got to spend a week with my fathers side of the family and got to know them.  it was good and bad.  i was hoping that they would be ...i dunno...more sophisticated and educated than i found.  i have always been called "the smart one" on my mothers side and the "overachiever" of the family.  i was hoping that my new side of the family would have some rising stars or some that were ahead of me. but that was not the case.  i don't mean to sound arrogant about it but it is the truth.  i was hoping that i had brothers or sisters that had surpassed my achievements in life.   you know something to brag about.  to be honest i can brag about having 4 siblings that i did not know about and that is about it.  my dad is retired from a steel mill in Ontario and now raised Pug dogs on his little farm.  they are great little dogs.  i was supposed to bring one home with me but there was not that much room in the truck.  i had my dad, step mum, brother Gary, his gf and i all in a truck with jump seats in the back.  so the dog "olive" did not make it home with me.  the lap top that was so graciously sent to me went home with my father.  he does not have a computer of his own and i had the dell as a spare since i bought my new computer a couple of weeks ago.  well that is it for now.

my situation is similar but smaller in lenght... met my dad for the first time when I was 19.  Its an awesome/weird/surreal experience.  Especially if you look alot like him which i did.  I've had a pretty mediocre relationship with him for 8 years now.  It can be tough, but its still great.

anyways... congrats on the reunion!
