So my GS500F has been through 2 accidents a hit and run and multiple drops.  Shes held up very well other then the few scrapes and broken fairings.  Ive decided im going to do what ive always wanted to do, turn that mother into a streetfighter.  I have a few issues that i could use some ideas on.  How bad is it to cut part of the frame off? I plan on having the seat and a taillight for the back end no fairing but all that bulky ugly metal is bothering the hell out of me and i wanna cut the end of the frame off. I would like the eat to sit more flush with the frame if possible. Heres a few pics to show where im at with all this i wanted to get a few suggestions before i start ordering parts and such.

I wouldn't go cutting on the subframe.  Your GS looks in fine shape for a naked conversion.

There's a lot you can do without permanently modifying it structurally.  Adding a race tail, front end work, rearsets, etc.

In addition, the subframe operates as a truss.  Removal some crossmembers will take out the shear members between the upper and lower subframe tubes.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

yea the seat is stock, yea i didnt want to go cutting on the frame ive seen a few street fighter mods on here that took abit of frame why i was wondering.  I honestly like the look of not having a tail i wanted just the seat maybe i can get  rid of some of the pads under the seat so the frame sits deeper up into it.  Like i said im getting some ideas before i go crazy and order parts or do something drastic.

What's your plan for the headlight setup?

i was thinking duals but ive seen square dual head lights and i was maybe going to do that, or possible round duals mounted in a helmet and mounted on the front.  I wanna do something interesting, i was getting some ideas today when i was at the auto store for a headlight setup.  I used to hate the large 6 incher but its kinda growing on me.

Mdow

get 6 small 1 inch lights.

i would look at maybe mounting some other sport bikes head light on their.  like a bussa light

Hahahahaha that would prob look pretty sick actually.  If it would give me enought light to see at night i would prob consider doing that haha.  I might have a look at other bikes lights,  i went to the junk yard yesterday to see if i could find anything that might be of some use.

what year is it because that seat looks alot thicker and more comfortable than mine

its a 05 GS500F.  Not gonna lie it is pretty comfortable i only get a sore after about 2+ hours of riding and thats prob because i have no ass.

Ugh im starting to have second thoughts about doing this.  Im still making payments on my bike and i dont know if i wanna be messing anything up until its paid off.  Though i REALLY wanna do this, what yall think i should do?

Yev

Just go naked with it and keep all the stock parts, just in case.. That's what I am doing. I like the streetfighter look, but don't want to cut shaZam!, so I am keeping the tail section and just removing all the other plastics.. Just a thought though.

My tail section is pretty broken, it was when i bought it but they hid it pretty damn well.  I was trying to find a tail section that has a passenger seat and will go onto the GS without major mods to it.

R6 tail sevtion fits pretty good with minor mods :thumb:

I have an 06 F model, and I am also doing a streetfighter/naked type mod this winter. However I will be keeping the rear as is structurally. I am adding a seat cowel, and paint. Removing front fairings and adding a dual headlight. Got some ideas from this site. http://www.xpostreetfighter.com/

I plan on getting one of those digital gauge setups sometime. I saw those a while back and think theyre awesome. I'll be putting some work in on my bike over the Winter too...if the money's there.
