I picked up a '98 Katana shock on ebay. I noticed that the spring looks noticably heavier than the stock GS spring. Is this going to be too stout for a 150# rider? Can the spring be replaced with a lighter rate spring?

Gs spring will not fit a katana shock.
Only option really is to slice and grind off 1/2 of the welded collar stop so your preload is lower. And ... you can send it to me and I'll do it, but I dunno any other place that will ...
Now 150 lbs ... were you overpowering the stock shock ? if not, run it ... sell the kat, or wait till you get fatter ... or get a fat girlfriend ... 150 is about the upper comfortable limit of a GS shock.
Cool.
