05 with no title? Sounds like it's HOT to me.  :dunno_white: I would ask why no title and get a bill of sale and a copy of there DL.

If it's stolen then it's an ethical issue and a moral one as well.

If you're worried about it being hot, just ask local PD to run the VIN #. If it's been ripped off, the current owners won't want you to do that.
Most of the time local law enforcement is willing to do that, just in case its a stolen bike they've been looking for. That's a whole lot better for you than if thety find it in your possesion

Its also possible that it has a COD title from a significant crash in its past, so look at the steering stops, and everything else, since its likely it WAS in fact crashed.

but get the VIN and a copy of the seller's drivers license, plus the address you purchased it from, and a state issued bill of sale,  Florida's DMV has the bill of sale in PDF format.  check your state's DMV for a bill of sale, or google bill of sale,  Texas, Delaware, etc and find the one for your state.  the legal form would work well with police I think if it in fact IS stolen.
looking for a new vehicle again.

What do you want it for?

With no title, it's good for only parts or the track.  If the previous owners simply lost the title, they can apply and get a replacement, but if not - it's likely either hot or it's been slated for destruction.

Not that there's anything wrong with a bike without a title if it's for the right purpose - my Geez is title-less and track-only - but it will never see the street.

I agree with the above suggestion to have the cops run the VIN - but if you want a streetbike, it's more trouble than it's worth.

That's not a big deal. You can just apply for a new title. Being stolen is a bit more concerning. Still haven't heard back from the guy. Waiting with fingers crossed.

look, you can see the wolves lapping their chops now, anticipating the prize.

no thought to the loss of the rightful owner, no worries they might find the same fate.
