Practice your emergency stuff.  Expose yourself to adrenaline.  Keep your mind focus on controlling the bike.  Do it all the time.  I'm rusty.  An Avalanche/Escalade thing pulled out in front of me about 10 minutes ago.  I just turned down the street...I know that just because I have a bike that'll go 0~50mph (speed limit) in 3 seconds doesn't mean I need to, but it does mean I will.  That's not the point, though.  This guy stopped paying attention for half a second and nearly took care of me.  Looking back I did great.  Brakes, lean, no panic...I made it home before panic set in.  Everything slowed down.  I actually had time to think...coherently..."this fucker just cut me off.  I should take off his mirror."  Seemed like there was still a second between the thoughts and when I was actually beside the car trying to take off the mirror.  I missed, though...good thing, probably, that wouldn't have solved anything and probably would have broken my hand...f%$king mirror caught my shoulder, though...just barely, but that should give you an idea of how close it was.  Damn it was close.

Good save.... and yes.. let the panic come later after you take care of surviving.

Glad you  made it. Nothing like a  "brown stain moment" to get the heart pumping.


My buddy  has kicked a mirror or two ( or 20...) off while riding . They look at him like he's crazy and he Yells-"Hey you weren't using it anyway!". I'm not condoning it- road rage on a bike is very dangerous (You aren't the one driving the 5000 pound sledgehammer you know...). I do however feel like doing it myself sometimes and don't blame him one bit...

I've flagged a guy down/got him to pull over- that ran a stop sign on me and scared the shaZam! out of him ( I was very close to dragging him through his window of his car and he knew it). He had nearly killed me and had a devil may care attitude about it at the beginning of the "discussion". 

Ride like everyone is out to kill you...if they make eye contact- look out- they assume you'll just get out of their way for some reason.

Ive had that same song play in my head in those situations before.

It's good to know youre alright, and that you have the ability to slow things down matrix style. Glad you're on our side.

I posted this on craigslist last night...the responses are...interesting...ranging from some nobody posting that they were the one who tried to get me to emails telling me they watch for bikes, to sell my bike, and my favorite is a colorful email from a claimed responsible person who turned out to be a 14 year old punk (searched is email down to his myspace page).

Heres an idea.  Humans are a creature of habit.  We do things just about the same times everyday when it comes to commuting,  making them easier to track.  Just remember the day and time you had your incident, and theres a good chance youll run into the prick again with in 30 minutes plus or minus the time.  Of course this would be a form of criminal stalking.  But hey...you can still claim your prize.  Snatch the mirror and post a pic for all to see.
