'89 GS will absolutely not rev above 1100-1200 rpms even with full choke and or full throttle . I've already cleaned and rebuilt the carbs in an effort to fix the problem with no luck. Bike starts easily and will sit at 1100 or so rpms all day as long as there is full choke. I'm going to check the valve clearances later this weekend hoping that helps anyone have any other ideas ?

The Buddha

Prolly not valves.
Some crap is badly installed. Does it stall when you try to rev or does it just not rev.
Does it stall if you take off shoke with throttle open ?
I could look at it for you ... $25 simple trouble shoot. Add in a jet job and $45. O rings or other things $10 or part by part basis. Some parts I have, others I dont. So new $$ on those.
Cool.

No it doesn't stall when I try to rev but it will stall without the choke. The bike ran fine when i got it a couple months ago and just started doing this a couplt weeks ago for no obvious reason. I've also drained the fuel and tried a different source twice with no luck. btw budda where in charlotte are you i'm only a few towns north in the landis/kannapolis area

The Buddha

I am 1 mile from the cabarrus county line, and 1/2 mile from Huntersville in charlotte. Near Eastfield and prosperity church rd.
Bring it over ... carbs only ... OK bring the bike but you're working on it ... pulling carbs etc ... But bring carbs and you should be sorted out ... bring the bike if you wanna test ride it before leaving ... Like truck it to my house, fix it and ride it back ...

Alright when i try to give it any gas the slides just continually slide up and down instead of staying open. What could be causing this ? Some sort of vac leak ? btw Buddha should I pm you for your contact info and when you would be available? I'd still rather figure it out myself just for the satisfaction but my patience is growing thin i'm eager to ride.

The Buddha

Slides moving up and down is right, that is in fact a sign that most of it is fitted up right ... so ... sorry I am lost.
Yea PM away ... but on here its for everyone to see, may help someone else.

Sorry I wasn't very clear about the slides. If i pull the throttle it should open the slide and keep it open right ? The problem I see is that the slides aren't staying open but rather sliding up and down rather wildly even though I"m keeping the throttle in the same position.

The Buddha

Oh slides are lifting and then dropping back down. OK ripped diaphragm. I'll sell you a pair for 10 bucks and mailing. How fast are they dropping though ... I dunno, I think I ahve to see it. AFAIK the ripped diaphragm will not open as much, it may open but it will drop slowly and stay there.
Cool.

Thats weird the diaphragms are brand new. They are dropping and raising very quickly probably in the neighborhood of once a second . I'm thinking maybe I don't have them seated quite right now.

I was looking at them again and had a duh-huh moment . Lets say i was a dumbass and replaced the tiny o-ring ,at the top where the cap and diaphragm go, with an even tinier one that didn't fit too well and may have been blocking the passage could that have anything to do with my problems maybe.
