GS500-E

hey guys i have a Suzuki GS500-E 1996 and i bought it WITH the restrictor kit installed. I now have the urge to remove it, i got it serviced, then i took out the washers in the carbs "metal washers, 1 in each side" but my bike can only hit 80mph and dosnt feel like thats unrestricted it, anything else i could check etc etc? cheers guys! :D

So you removed the washers on the needles? Huh?

What restriction kit are you talking about?

Best thing you can do, 2 #4 washers to space up the needles (2 on each needle).. then adjust mix and balance the carbs and you'll be a happy camper.

If there 'were' a true restrictor kit, I'm guessing it'd have something to do with the air box and possibly an exhaust reduction up by the head.

Sometimes companies will weld a washer/reducer into the exhaust to restrict flow and also narrow the venturi (carb openings) to have it suck in less air...

But, something tells me the GS500 never had a restrictor kit... unless you're talking about an emissions thing...

I dunno.. I'm sure Buddha will be along to help.

Probably shouldnt be telling ye this  :thumb: :icon_mrgreen:...

Assuming your restriction kit is the same as my GS500F, it's the piston valves in the Carbs.

They replace the entire Piston Valves with different valves...I have mine sitting in front of me now (I was only "looking" at them whilst studying the Caburettor and thinking about what nice little jobs I could do to my bike)  :icon_mrgreen:

HOWEVER, it may not be in the carbs....my bike was restricted with a free kit from Suzuki...the FI International ones are different.

Bear in mind, if YOU DO it, and you have a prang, you'll have no insurance and also lose your licence if they find out you have no restrictors in when you should have....oh aye, and the 6 penalty points and a fine  :thumb:

For info, mine is restricted and I passed 95mph (on a private road, etc) ... the restriction on my bike kills the throttle and I need to shift more quickly, it doesnt really affect top speed....just gives the off the line speeds a kick in the ass the wrong way

There are several ways of restricting (and therefore unrestricting) a UK spec GS500E ...............come back when you have passed part 2 and I will tell you how to do it

BTW....NEWGS is totaly correct about the consequences of doing it without a full license and Jaywolf will also confirm it.

GS500-E

unfortunatly i have heard the consequences but unfortunatly a young rider i have no idea the shaZam! im going to get in to and of course i do ignore the fact that it could kill me.

it was 2 metal washers which were taken out of the 2 carb intakes im not very good with methods and wording but its 2 big holes on the same side which 2 metal washers fell out of, i heard that there might be 2 more in the top of the carbs which i can take out, hard to explain when i dont no what im taking about hehe, hmmmm.... dam no ideas how to say it ugggggg right took the carbs out and it looks like 2 big ass holes on the side towards the seat, holes look to be about... 28inches+ 1 washer from each hole came out, and didnt "un-restrict" the bike, i thought it might have been smaller jets installed? also might be another one in the downpipes? also there could be washers in the top of the carbs, preventing the slides from fully opening? but aye cheers, ill have another look sure about those other comments, will let you guys no what happens, cheers for the help :) keep it coming :D

Yep ,... Its really not worth it , My friend has done the same in on his z1000 , doesnt seem to think it needs to be restricted .. even tho hes on a 33 bhp lieince... i lost mine for a year because of it , now i pay heavyer insurance etc , only 3 more years before i dont have to declare it

Yep...I was also tempted but losing the licence and seeing the insurance go rocket is too painful to consider.......it just means shifting sooner as I say.........that, and trying to remember on those straights there is NO way you're touching any other 500+ bike  :icon_mrgreen:
