ok as some of you know i just finished a Katana front end swap and was having front brake problems
lever was firm but just didn't stop felt like pads were lubed up on the rotors

well i hadn't riden it in a week just cause money is super tight and i right my bicycle to class or the bus or walk to the store (small collge town and i freaking love it)

so i got on to ride the other day and about threw my self of the bike.

THE FRONT BRAKE WORK now.  the lever feels alot more normal now and got some give to it and feel like the old GS did (alittle firmer but not alot)

and the freakin thing stops now.  i would say it was a piston that was stuck but i had tryed that they all moved if i compress them my self and grabed the lever they all moved out.

i think my final decition on the problem was something was lodged in my brake lines or master cyl i have no idea but they work great now

(rear wheels still isn't staying aligned but ill deal with it later)

Nooo ... we must rebuild ... we must rebuild ... you cannot take that working brake and use it ... it needs to be rebuilt.

You clown ... This is a private joke between me and mdow ... dont butt in ... if you dont know the history.
In breif ... he swapped the FE for a Kat FE ... all by himself ... I didn't sell him FE or brakes ... I sold him a top triple with guage ears ... and we may swap it back ...

Then he wanted to rebuild it a few weeks ago, and I as usual blew up at the word rebuild ...

Then I bought a bike that sat for 17 years ... brake fluid was the color of and the semll of ... tar ... master cyl was stuck ... I ordered a rebuild kit ... and started taking it apart ... and  revived it by cleaning and ... promptly posted here about how a rebuild is a waste of $$$ ... under most circumstances ...

Then I told him something else is wrong and rebuilding may not be needed ... taking it off and cleaning may be what he'd need and that being the first step to a rebuild ... yea it will work ...

Went back and forth across many threads ...

This is my way of saying ... "I told you so" ... not  "gimme all your $$$"

$150 is what he spent on the whole FE ... and I aint rebuilding nothing for 150 ... cos I aint rebuilding shaZam! at all ... I will put new O rings in it, or put new seals in it ... not rebuilding it ... "rebuilt" is a word shops like to throw around to fleece the customers. Like that is a cure for everything.

No ... someone along the line I became a hardworking honest man.
AKA working class stiff ...
I should have been somewhere scamming old people out of their life savings by selling them Super SIV's that are backed by MBS's that are backed by CDO's which are insured by AIG.

And one sure way to get me riled up is asking me to rebuild sheite ... I'll tell them I poured some molten metal on it cos the metal looked a bit thin and it blew a hole here.

pkhoff

I was building this house of cards and it just fell down.

Do you think it's ok to rebuild it?

The Buddha

Yes Pkhoff, and if its in the path of major hurricanes, tornado alley, earthquake zones, flood zones, near the ocean, below sea level or in forest fire zones the federal government will pay for it. You even get to scream and cry on national TV and toss blame at random.

kml.krk - Yea OK ...

I agree that it is a good idea to take the brake apart and fix it properly - it's never a good idea to trust the bike to fix itself... especially when it comes to brakes!  :o  :icon_mrgreen:

The Buddha

If it was leaking or lacking power and mushy feeling I totally agree with you.

He had it sitting for a long time before he got it even, then it acted like it was not moving or 1 piston was not moving. It has 8 and 1 not moving can do that. Vibration and some extra pumping ... and its fine. These things are very hardy ... I had one that was stuck and it cleaned out well and makes pressure good. In a way, its impossible to get it as good as stock ... they sprayed color straight on the tank and it last years and years ... forever if you dont tear it up. Fork seals ... calipers, ... same thing. Why ?
They work with fresh clean shiny new metal ... we at best can dream of what they can lay their hands on. Their dust covers seal out everything, the pistons are 100% protected ... short of filling the reservoir with acid, it will never see corrosion. Till we open it and expose it to all the moisture and dirt and BS. Then all bets are off.
Cool.
