Now for the most important question: Do I have to stop riding, or just be more careful? I figure it will be a week and a half before I get the parts.

Is the oil leaking?  How bad?  My front brake pads were fouled and once I saw that, I hung it up until I fixed the seals and installed new pads.  It really depends on how badly you need to ride I suppose.

My pads are fouled too..... at first, one of my legs was leaking (fork legs that is.. :P ) and it wasnt too bad... I kept riding (prolly stupid). Then I hit a couple nasty bumps.. then I came to a fairly quick stop at a light and when I completely stopped I noticed a small puddle beside my wheel. Seems like maybe the seal was leaking and then just blew.. now my front brake has been douced in fork oil and the pads are all messed up... so I ordered new pads (needed rear ones, too) and am not riding until I fix the forks and change the pads... luckily I have no time to ride now and am preparing for a trip to a conference in asia.. hopefully my stuff will all be waiting for me when I return home...

BTW - what is the proper break in procedure/period for new brake pads?

thanks
