For those of you with relocated license plates

I would like to change the location of my license plate, but the po-lice around here are real dicks in some areas of town, and I can't afforsd any tickets. I was hoping to get some insight on alternative places to mount my license plate while maintaining visability. I'd really appreciate it if those of you with relocated license plates could take pictures from the rear, head on facing the license plate so I could get an idea of how it would sit. I have a Katana rear shock for what it's worth. Thanks again everybody!

Why do you want to change the location?

You can trim off the big rear fender and still keep the plate in more or less the same plate.  Relocating the plate is a good way to get LEO attention anywhere, at any time.  I have the stock plate location and stock signals on my bike, and I have yet to get pulled over.  It's not because I ride slowly and sensibly.   :icon_mrgreen:

My fender has been completely cut off and the license plate hung from a couple of tabs coming from just under the tail light. You can see it in this picture:

I guess it kind of counts as relocation... I think if I put it anywhere else, the cops would not be happy with me. California says the plate has to be mounted as far to the rear as possible...

I don't have a pic of it but I saw a gs500 that used the stock plate bracket and mounted the plate sideways near the rear tire.
He attached it with the adjuster bolt on the right hand side on the end of the swing arm.

Here's why

My taillight and license plate stick out like a sore thumb. The stock fairing support bars are still being used to hold them together on the rear of the bike. I want those things gone, but I need a logical place to put my taillight and tag.

You might try movin it in under the fender a little bit... If it were me, i would just angle it more and maybe bend the plate just a little bit out.

fred

Yeah, I wouldn't do much more than change the angle of the plate and leave it mounted where it is now. It looks like you already have a cutoff exhaust, if you are riding around with that and a license plate the cops can't see, they will pull over in no time flat. Also keep in mind that most (all?) states require your plate to be lit by a white light in some way. That's why the bottom of your tail light lens is clear. If you separate the two, you're going to have to worry about lighting or they'll pull you over at night too...

point well taken. Ill have to think something up. I more than anything just want to get rid of those fairing supports and tuck in my taillight, but losing those pieces will take away my mounts for the license plate. That's why I was asking. I'm sure I could wire up some led's for the platem just didn't know a good spot to stick it.

I like the look of this style, plus I think it's more visible than tucking it up under the fender.

This isn't the one I saw I just googled a pic for reference, and they are charging $70 when you could just make the stock bracket work or make your own from sheet metal.

Yeah, you could put the stock rear plastics on.  That would make the taillight and license plate not stick out so badly.  :icon_lol:
