Fixed half my 'wierd noises' in about 30 minutes.

So here were the noises:

1. Growling at low speed.
2. Hum/Whine at 5k-6k rpm.
3. Brake clunking.
4. Brake swish/growl noise at high speed.
5. Rear brake sensitivity (too sensitive).

So basically took the whole front end apart, tightened the front fender bolts, speedo cable loop bolt, fork brace and then worked my way down. Found that a lot of sand was built up behind the speedo gear drive and the spacer sides of the wheel, cleaned it all out and re-assembled.

Took the front caliper off, sanded down the pads w/220 grit to remove the glaze and smooth some knicks that had formed, also lightly sanded the rotor to remove some of the glaze from it as well. Took the caliper apart, cleaned and re-greased the slides and boots, threw it all back together and pumped in some fresh DOT4 fluid.. the stuff that came out was BROWN and it'd only been about 4000 miles since I bought the bike (maybe the dealer never changed it? who knows, I did buy the bike with 7000 miles on it 10104 on it now...). Gave everything a shot of brakekleen and moved to the rear.

Simply bled in new DOT4 fluid into the rear braker and cleaned up the rotor. Then just snugged up the chain, lubed it up and inspected it for wear. Then I aligned the rear wheel and snugged everything up.

Took her for a ride and all the above noises are GONE. And it only took about 30 minutes! I'm amazed at how noisy it was by how quiet it is now...

Now if I could just figure out a few small vibrations here and there in the dash I'll be all set.

OH, had another issue too. Somehow 2 of my rear fender bolts popped out. The Left-side bolt by the seat release and the front bolt up by the battery box both gone... no where to be found... luckilly I had 2 bolts kicking around from when I replaced the two rear fender bolts with LED light-bolts for my license plate. Kinda weird.

Anyhoo, just sharing some fun! Can't wait to take her to work in the morning!

Dan
